MUMBAI: The production company behind "Maharaj," which is the feature film debut of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan's son Junaid, Yash Raj Films (YRF), has thanked the legal system following the lifting of the Gujarat High Court's temporary injunction against the movie's release.

The historical drama is based on the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862 and is set in pre-independence India. The Gujarat High Court noted on Friday that "Maharaj" did not specifically target the Vaishnav Pushtimarg sect, as claimed by members of the group, who had petitioned against the movie's release on the grounds that it offends religious feelings.
After viewing the movie, the court declared that it included no objectionable or disparaging content and approved its publication on Netflix.
Karsandas Mulji, one of India's greatest social reformers, is honored in the film, according to a statement released by YRF on its official social media accounts.
The film studio, which has produced popular films including "Veer Zaara", "Fighter", "Pathaan", "Ek Tha Tiger", "Chak De! India", "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Silsila", and "Kabhi Kabhie", claimed it had never produced a picture that would "tarnish" the nation's reputation.
"Yash Raj Films has a half-century-long history of promoting India, its narratives, its populace, traditions, and culture. We have never made a movie that has damaged the standing of our nation or its citizens. The production banner read, "Hope you watch 'Maharaj' and join us in saluting Karsandas."

Maharaj is directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey, and Sharvari Wagh in a special appearance.
