MUMBAI: Indian telly and Bolly stars never fail to levitate their fashion games up by several notches every time they are seen trying out new outfits based on a brand new or a recurring trend.

From ethnic traditional wear to classic western garments, our beloved and popular telly divas and actresses can be seen endorsing a wide variety of garments and outfits of formal and informal styles, that are both new and vintage. However, millennials have witnessed the overt popularity of western garments and dress codes with various denimwear being the most popular of all times and generations.

We know how the European fashion and dress code standards have governed that of this country for almost over two to three centuries. This was witnessed in the phases of colonialism when Britishers tried capturing India and converting it into their Christian colony. Though they never succeeded in their mission, however, the impact of their radical and missionary approaches could be traced in the country's present living standards, education syllabuses and policies, regional languages, food as well as their social mannerisms especially when located in the metropolitan cities and towns.

However, the most vital factor which underwent a hell-bound transformation post the British invasion and the impact of 'Free Trade' (as a result of westernisation) was indefinitely the country's clothing patterns. Citizens literally gave up endorsing drapery garments and outfits to wear those that were neatly tailored and stitched, in order to save more time. facilitate more ease of endorsement and locomotion. This is the phase when citizens began trying out a variety of rich European garments, outfits and styles; that imparted a whole new level of aesthetics altogether.

For women, endorsing one of those elaborate European-styled ballroom gowns was a big dream, owing to its epitome beauty and feminine vibes. With changing time, when Indian women began endorsing outfits like a pair of trousers and denim wear along with their regular dresses and salwar suits and travelling abroad (especially to the European countries), a lot more outfits were gradually getting included in their wardrobes like long coats, woollen pullovers, knee-high boots, dresses, handbags, headgears and related accessories.

Today, we are going to take note of telly divas like Hina Khan, Erica Fernandes and Jennifer Winget's European style statements with reference to the authentic Europe-inspired garments like long coats, gowns, springtime outfits, turtle-neck tops and fur coats:

1. Long coats

These are way heavier than regular coats and blazers (depending upon the raw material that goes into their making) and are essentially aimed at keeping oneself warm during the chilly months of the European countries (especially when in Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Belgium and few others). However, with the intervention of fashion in comfort, these coats are now available in various cuts, colours and designs, provided their authentic length maintains till the endorser's knee level and below.

2. Springtime outfits

These are the lighter cotton outfits that are endorsed in the spring-summer or monsoon months. Owing to almost entire Europe's high humidity conditions, cotton is highly preferred to keep the excessive heat at bay and for the same reason, citizens and tourists can be seen endorsing monochrome outfits, especially in white, black, grey, brown, navy blue, dark green or in the pastel shades of the aforementioned colours. Great Britain favours white garments the most and totally abort anything in loud or neon colours. These outfit ensembles can range from office formals to shirt-skirts, shirt-denim pants, shirt-dress, cotton dresses and even cotton jumpsuits (all in mild hues).

3. Gowns

For every girl around the globe, slipping into a traditional European flairy gown has been a big dream, credit goes to the depiction of these garment's aesthetics through the various popular European fairytales. Gowns were a totally event-based attire that is endorsed for attending grand and special events like a ballroom dance or weddings.

4. Turtle-neck tops

These are the classical high-neck non-buttoned tops that were initially endorsed by the English Polo players since 1860, as part of their uniform on the field. Since then, the termed of 'polo neck' was coined. From there, the turtleneck tops started making their way as a trend to fit in the formal and casual ensembles sometime during the 1900s, as a practical everyday go-to garment. This was more of symbolic importance for the Indians, who consider it enabling the protection of its endorser's throat when located in extremely cold places.

5. Fur coats

Lastly, these special pull-over coats used to be a major status symbol for the Europeans since they were initially made with real animal fur. Consequently, the poaching and trading of furry animals (especially those with natural fancy prints) like bears, leopards, tigers, lions, cheetahs, snow leopards, etc. increased rapidly. The imbalance caused to the ecosystem called for the ceasing of these illegal atrocities. Also, animal prints can now be artificially embossed over these synthetic furry coats to retain the authentic look. Following this, factory-produced synthetic furs replaced the animal ones, which can be endorsed by anybody who still loves endorsing fur-based outfits, especially coats.
