K-Pop Sensation Aoora Mesmerised Hearts at KoreM, Became the First International Artist to Perform in Garo, Pnar, and Khasi Languages

MUMBAI: vibrant hills of Meghalaya came alive with a symphony of cultures as K-Pop phenomenon Aoora graced the KoreM festival, the first-ever Indo-Korean cultural collaboration organized by the Department of Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya. The event marked a historic confluence of global rhythms and indigenous heritage, as Aoora made an indelible mark by becoming the first international artist to perform in Garo, Pnar, and Khasi languages, uniting music lovers in a heartwarming celebration of diversity.

*Principal Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, “Shri Frederick Roy Kharkongor, IAS noting the importance of this event, stated that* _“Today marks the beginning of the friendship, the artiste engagement, co-visiting of the artistes from Meghalaya to Korea and from Korea to Meghalaya. From this day onwards, there will be much more exchange….” Exploring cultural partnerships & Cultural collaborations between Korea & Meghalaya through Department of Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya. Mr Kharkongor was hopeful that there will be twin cities agreement between Shillong and a city in Korea .He also expressed that the maiden KoreM festival signals the Departments commitment and mandate to expand cultural horizons and explore further meaningful cultural collaborations between Korea & Meghalaya”_

On the occasion , An MOU was also signed & exchanged to embark on artists engagement & exchange between Director Arts & Culture & Mr Min , who represented GINCON Korea

Crafted with passion and pride, the cultural anthem The Greatest—an electrifying collaboration between Aoora and Meghalaya’s most celebrated artists, Lamphang Syiemlieh, Jessie Lyngdoh, and Ahaia D Sangma—showcased the seamless harmony between modern K-Pop and Meghalaya's rich musical traditions. Produced by the Department of Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya, the anthem resonated with the festival’s spirit, echoing the universal language of music that bridges hearts across the world.

Speaking about the experience, Aoora expressed deep gratitude and awe at the cultural exchange, stating*, _“To sing in Garo, Pnar, and Khasi alongside such talented artists was an honour that I will cherish forever. Music has the profound power to connect souls beyond borders, and today we witnessed that magic.”_

Minister of Arts & Culture, Govt. of Meghalaya, Bah Paul Lyngdoh observed that “There is a lot of affinity, a lot of similarities, and as we journey on together, we will find a lot that is common between Korea and Meghalaya”. He expressed hope that, through these cultural exchanges, local music from Meghalaya will take on new dimensions, playfully alluding to local music as K-pop (Khasi pop).

KoreM emerged not just as a festival, but as a radiant symbol of unity and creative fusion, leaving the audience spellbound and igniting a newfound appreciation for the beauty of cultural collaboration. As the festival unfolded, The Greatest transcended languages and backgrounds, proving that music, in its purest form, has the unparalleled ability to weave a tapestry of love, respect, and shared humanity.
