MUMBAI: Star Plus' one of the most beloved shows - Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is the television industry's second-longest-running Indian television soap opera.
Produced by Rajan Shahi, it initially starred Hina Khan and Karan Mehra as it's main on-screen lead couple as Akshara and Naitik, who were blessed with 2 kids - an elder son Naksh and a younger daughter Naira.
Once Hina Khan left the show, the plot's limelight shifted on a grown-up Naira and her husband Kartik Goenka's on-screen love story and chemistry, whose characters were portrayed by telly stars, Shivangi Joshi and Mohsin Khan.
The next-gen lead couple of Kartik and Naira graced the show in 2016 and are still active in the show, however, Shivangi's portraying Naira's alter-character of her doppelganger and boxer - Sirat Shekhawat.
To be honest, the show initially used to focus on family relationships and values which well-served the visual satieties of the Indian viewers for almost 8 years, however, the new theme of importance was obviously Kartik-Naira's 'made-in-heaven' love story, which began setting major goals for the show's audience to believe in the existence of soulmates. This theme helped in elevating and expanding the show's immense popularity amid the Indian youngsters through Kartik-Naira's 'safe haven' and 'sizzling' chemistry.
Within a span of only 4 years (2016-2020), Kartik-Naira's romantic journey was also no less than a roller-coaster ride as their post-marital struggles tested the couple's unity in diversity against time, as they were prone to separation owing to situational crises for over multiple times. Kartik-Naira maintained themselves as the symbol of integrity, unity and love throughout the show who were all about anticipating each other's hidden emotions without the need for expression. Yes, misunderstandings did lure amid them occasionally but when two souls yearn for each other, no repulsive forces can drift them apart no matter what.

The duo combated against local superstitions, societal oppression, serial vamps and even physical hazards together and managed to stay united even without physical proximities at times of situational helplessness.
The show's makers always aimed to immortalize KaiRa's love story, right from their first meetup. To materialise the name, they took the aid of various external factors and creative themes to romanticise their relationship every time they overcame a hurdle together and reunited back as a strong couple.
From destination weddings to cute PDAs, setting of roleplay goals, introducing creative themed parties to celebrate different events and family occasions, many things were brilliantly executed by Kartik and Naira to boost their relationship's romantic quotient with the passing time. As discussed earlier, it's most importantly Mohsin and Shivangi's on-screen bonding and chemistry which makes the driving purpose behind these themes getting paid off well.
We have witnessed how the show empathises and enhances family culture. As a theist household, Rajan Shahi's Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has always focussed on the importance of the various Indian (especially the Marwari) festivals and occasions. From the portrayal of the perfect performance of all rites and rituals associated with a spiritual event (pooja), just like any other Hindi TV soap opera, YRKKH also used references from Indian mythology, to establish the importance of relationship goals and long-lasting marital love stories. Owing to this, references of mythological figures and couple characters like of Radha-Krishna, Sita-Ram and Shiv-Parvati have been drawn innumerable times in this show to celebrate the power of immortal love, with Kartik and Naira being depicted as close to their mortal versions.
To celebrate occasions like Janmashtami, Ram Navami, Dusshera, Shiv-Ratri, Karwa-Chauth, Gangaur and many others; often, Shivangi and Mohsin were seen dressing up different Indian mythological couple-centric characters like Radha-Krishna and Shiv-Parvati to enact their eternal love stories in the KaiRa way. This also signified that just like these eternal demi-couples, the on-screen
couple of KaiRa would forever be known as and would go down in the future as one of the television industry's most-cherished and loved immortal on-screen couple.
