5 sexist things that Bollywood actresses face

It might be 2016 where actresses being on par with their male counterparts, but sexist things still fail to go away from the industry.

Despite progressive movies and social media awareness, actresses are subjected to various patriarchal stuff. We take a look at five of them…read on:

Actresses and their baby:

As soon as an actress announces her pregnancy, her to-be child’s gender becomes the hot topic. While not would-be fathers are pestered, all moms-in-the-making have to religiously answer such a question.

Will you stop working after marriage?

No woman should be expected to answer this…and definitely not an actress. Marriage or no marriage, an actress should be judged only on her work. Because no actor is asked this question ever.

Older woman-younger man romances are few:

While actors are paired with actresses half their age, senior actresses hardly get roles that show off their acting prowess against younger heartthrobs. They are either slotted into ‘cougar’ roles or made to specifically mention their age difference through the plot. Sigh.

They bask in the hero’s glory:

Unless it’s an out-and-out heroine’s movie, the actress basks in the hero’s glory. She could be the pretty prop, the glossy sidekick to the lead’s shenanigans, but the plot doesn’t revolve around her if a prominent actor has been cast opposite her.

Actresses have to constantly prove themselves:

It’s true, accept it. One bad film and they are written off, while their co-actors get many chances to shine at the BO. Also, their solo-lead movies are invariable tagged under ‘women-centric’, while every other Hindi film with a male lead is never bracketed into categories.

Phew! It's a man's world, isn't it???
