Diwali is not only about the fireworks on the streets, but also at the box office. The festival of lights is the perfect time to rake in big bucks, an adage Bollywood lives by.
Perhaps that’s why producers vie for the coveted date to release their flicks. We take a look at the epic clashes that happened (or are waiting to happen) on Diwali. Read on:
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil-Shivaay:
With all the controversies surrounding Karan Johar’s directorial venture Ae Dil hai Mushkil, one thing is for sure. The movie has lapped up enough eyeballs in publicity. But does it mean that the romantic-drama will have an edge over Ajay Devgn’s thriller? Let’s wait and watch on October 28, 2016.
Om Shanti Om-Saawariya:
Three hot debutantes ventured into Bollywood with big dreams. If Shah Rukh Khan helmed and cushioned Deepika Padukone, two newbies- Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor- set the premise for a romantic saga. Unfortunately, two new faces failed to sizzle at the BO, while Deepika became an overnight star with her debut vehicle.
Mohabattein-Mission Kashmir:
Mohabattein was all about romance, young love, and rebellious students and Mission Kashmir tried to cash in on Hrithik’s stardom by casting him in a mysterious role. Needless to add, Mohabattein fared better.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan-Son of Sardaar:
Thanks to this clash, SRK and Ajay Devgn had a fallout. Even though both movies became hits at the box office, there were rumours about the lead actors being upset with the other for releasing their movie on the same day.
Golmaal 3-Action Replayy:
This was a no-brainer, actually. Rohit Shetty was laughing away to the bank with every Golmaal outing, so his third edition was anyway going to be lapped up. Its only competition was Akshay Kumar-Aishwarya Rai’s Action Replayy. When the latter failed to hit the chords, Golmaal 3 cruised its way to the top.
