#IndependenceDay Special: 5 movies to watch this Independence Day

Watching a patriotic movie is as much of a ritual as being glued to the Independence Day parade and the unfurling of the flag is. So on this historic day, we take a look at five movies that you must watch today…read on:

Border:
Even today our hearts race when we see the Indian Air Force leaving for the border to offer air support to the army in the climax scene. Filled with patriotic dialogues, heart-wrenching songs and a stellar ensemble cast, this J P Datta gem is a must-watch today. If you don’t shed a tear or two, well, what are you?

Rang De Basanti:
When a bunch of collegians decide to turn the government around, nothing can come in their way. This blockbuster movie has Aamir Khan playing a student-turned-revolutionary who avenges his friend’s death in a chilling fashion. With the movie oscillating between black-white and colour scenes, it's a total delight for the audiences.

Chak De! India:
When a movie tackles sexist issues without even being slightly upfront about it, you know you’ve a winner already. Shah Rukh Khan plays a disgraced hockey player whose aim is to train his girls’ hockey squad so that they go on to win the coveted trophy. Through sheer hard work and against all odds, the girls bring back the prized possession. What a liberating movie!

Mangal Pandey: The Rising
The movie failed to light up the box office, but it’s definitely managed to leave a lasting impact on our minds. After all, it traces the revolution of 1857, which is also known as the first war of independence. Made on an epic proportion, it brings to life the cruelties of the era gone by. A special salute to Aamir for playing the titular role so efficiently.

Lagaan:
A grand setting, a stunning cast, and a cricket match. What more do you want? Yes, once again Aamir Khan gives a goosebump-inducing performance as Bhuvan in this epic magnum opus. When Indians and British cricketers are pitted against one another, sparks fly. Even though it’s obvious that the Indian side will win the game, the nail-biting climax makes it one of the best movies to watch on I-Day.
