Sports stories inspire people: Farhan Akthar
Filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar, who is gearing up for his next film The Sky is Pink, has said sports stories are easier to understand and they also inspire people.
Farhan said this here on Tuesday while interacting with the media at the launch of sportswear brand D:FY along with Anil Kumble, Ritesh Sidhwani, Saqib Salim, Rhea Chakraborty and Nidhhi Aggarwal.
Farhan has played the role of legendary Indian sprinter Milkha Singh in Bhag Milkha Bhag.
When asked Farhan whether cinema on sports is emerging as a trend, he said, "We always look up to sporting icons and sporting legends over the time that we have had, to bring their stories onscreen. There is a lot I think, for children especially, to learn about character and life and it also helps to re-invent you and to deal with failure."
Farhan feels stories based on sports personalities inspire people in general.
"I think if you can take stories from sports, they are easier for people to understand and they inspire people because they are not very complicated so, it gets easy for children and people in general to learn life lessons from sports."
In the near future, audience will be able to see sports film based on India's 1983 World Cup win titled as 83 in which Ranveer Singh is playing the role of former Indian captain Kapil Dev.
On the other hand, Sharddha Kapoor will play role of Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal in Amol Gupte's upcoming film.
"As far as cinema on sports is concerned, I think nothing can be more dramatic. When you watch a sport, be it cricket or football or badminton, we have seen the events in a match, where you feel this has played out in a way which couldn't even be scripted.
"If you write it, then people might question that how is it possible? So, there is lot of drama in sports and that's what makes it so enjoyable to watch. In sports, heroes emerge and stories are created in a way that you cannot possibly imagine," he said.
The Sky is Pink is a biographical drama film directed by Shonali Bose and co-produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ronnie Screwvala under the banner of RSVP films.
The film is based on motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary who was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis.
It stars Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim in lead roles.
Asha Bhosle to pay tribute to four iconic composers
Legendary singer Asha Bhosle will pay tribute to four legendary Indian film music composers -- Sachin Dev Burman, Hemant Kumar, Salil Chowdhury and Rahul Dev Burman -- by performing at The Bengal Tigers, a show to be held here on 1 September.
Asha will share her experiences about all four 'Bengal Tigers' during the show at the Shanmukhananda Hall, read a statement issued on behalf of the organisers Badaam Raja Productions, owned by Vinayak Gawande, Ninad Karpe and Poonam Torgal.
Compositions of the four composers will be presented featuring young artistes like Shailaja Subramanian, Anindita Paul, Adish Telang and Hrishikesh Ranade on vocal and a troupe of 15 musicians on melody and percussion instruments conducted by Kamlesh Bhadkamkar.
Conceived and directed by composer Rahul Ranade, The Bengal Tigers is aimed at taking the audience on a trip of nostalgia and history behind each of their iconic songs.
The concert will present the choicest of each of the composer's compositions in Hindi, English and Bengali, woven through a narrative describing their journey and evolution of music.
Actor Sumeet Raghavan will host the show.
Rahul Ranade, Creative Director of the show, said in a statement, "My idea was to go beyond the routine orchestra drill. The Bengal Tiger promises to bring forth the most popular songs along with some rare and unheard melodies composed by each of the gems.
"While we have regaled their melodies for decades now, it would be important to know the process and journey behind each composition. I also think the current generation needs to be aware and educated about the glorious musical history of Indian film music. As a die-hard fan and deriving musical inspiration all throughout my career from them, I am glad to pay a tribute to them."

Ashley Rebello’s heartfelt message for Salman Khan who completes 30 years in Bollywood
Salman Khan has completed 30 years in the industry today. It was three decades ago that Salman’s debut film, Biwi Ho Toh Aisi, had hit the theatres. Celebrity fashion designer, Ashley Rebello, who has been working closely as Salman’s stylist since years, has something to share about the actor’s journey.
“He is Tiger, Chulbul, Prem, Sultan, to all, but to me, he is Salman – mama’s boy, a philanthropist, an actor par excellence, a family man with a heart of gold! He has been in the industry for 30 years. Though it may all sound cheesy it’s true…love this man to death. I remember my first shoot with him…it was like yesterday when he told me, ‘Relax, Ashley, I won’t bite!’ That was during Wanted and now it’s Bharat and he has come a long way. The last ten years with him have been just wonderful, and trust me, he does not bite! And on a serious note, I feel a sense of gratitude, because he introduces me to anyone as a part of his family; my friends even call me Ashley Khan, but I laugh it off. Be it Eid or Diwali or a birthday, I am always included as a part of his family and as his mother calls me, ‘my angel’ but little does she know she is my angel and his sister, Alvira, is my lifeline. 30 years to you, Salman, in the industry, and 30 more to come! You know I will always stand by you, no matter what. Here’s to you, Salman Bhai!”
Paresh Rawal slams a troll for questioning his contribution towards Kerala
Kerala has been devastated by floods this year and celebs are trying their best to make a difference for the people who are reeling under its effect. But there are still some who are using the parameters to judge who is a better humanitarian among the celebs. Yes, it’s a really sick notion but trolls have hardly ever made sense, for example, the man who praised Shah Rukh Khan for his help towards the cause makes a snarky comment at others including Paresh Rawal doubting their contribution. The latter was quick enough to explain something which everyone should know.
Giving donation is a humanitarian gesture, not an PR exercise n everyone does charity in their own little way , the amount does not decide the size of the heart of the giver ...! https://t.co/DmmkCz9Y7u
