Notable actor Mahesh Thakur, who has worked in several Hindi TV serials and Bollywood films, is all set to make his Bengali film debut with the social thriller ‘Game Plan’. Recently, the actor was in Kolkata to attend the trailer launch of the same. At the event, Tellychakkar.com caught up with Mahesh over a quick chat to know about the film, his character in it and more. Excerpts:
How did the film happen?
Film aise hua tha ki I was in Bombay (Mumbai) one fine day and the phone rang. On the other side of the phone was Pallavi Chatterjee. She said that she wants do a film with me. I had not met her; I had only heard of her. She sent me the script. I got the English translation of the script and read it. She also sent me my character brief. And after going through all the creative parts, I said yes to the project. Then I went to Vizag and met the whole unit for the first time. So, we didn’t have any personal meeting before. I met everybody on the shooting day. And the worst thing when you meet everybody on the shooting day is you are required to remember forty different names and faces which go with them (laughs).
Tell us something about the character you are essaying in the film.
Well, the film starts off with me being the ideal husband and then what happens is what makes the film. The character has loads of shades definitely. I am a rich man in the movie. I have a happy family. I have a child too. The trailer shows that I react to an amount of fifty crores. So, us raaj ke piche kya hai is what makes the film.
These days a lot of Bengali films are being made on thrillers. So, what makes it different from the rest?
Well, I am pretty much unaware of the Bengali films which have been made on this genre. I don’t know which films are releasing. I can only speak about this film. According to me, it is different because you can’t lift your eyes from it for five minutes. Har scene me kuch matlab hai, kuch revealation hai.
Pallavi Chatterjee has conceived the story of Game Plan and is also acting in it. Share your experience of working with her.
Pallavi is a sweetheart. She is so caring about everything. As you know, she has done multiple roles in this film. As a story writer; as somebody who was behind the camera and also who worked in front of the camera, she made me feel comfortable. She had very good communication skills so she could convey her points. She is very sensitive. The moment she realized that I was not comfortable with something she would come up and would talk about the issues which were troubling me. And you must have heard she said that Mahesh is the best person to work with. Actually, she is very aware of her team. Not only me, she is aware of her camera person, her director…everyone. She is very attentive and that’s her plus point.
After Game Plan, would you like to explore yourself more in Bengali films?
If I get the right offers, why not?
Produced by Dmax Ntertainment, the film is slated to hit the screens in the month of June.
