Legendary actor Dilip Kumar was admitted to Lilavati hospital yesterday evening, following complains of chest pain and breathlessness. According to sources, the actor suffered from a massive heart attack of the inferior wall. He is currently being treated under the care of cardiologist Dr Nitin Gokhale.
In the official medical bulletin issued late in evening, Lilavati Hospital spokesperson Dr Naresh Trivedi was quoted saying, "Dilip Kumar has been admitted to our hospital, he is in the intensive care unit (ICU) and his condition is stable."
Born in Peshawar (now in Pakistan) on 11 December, 1922, Dilip Kumar earned the sobriquet of ‘Tragedy King’ for his unmatched acting histrionics in timeless classics like Devdas, Madhumati, Mughal-e-Azam and Ganga Jamuna. Married to Saira Banu who is 20 years his junior, the iconic actor had limited his public appearances due to frail health. He was last seen with his doting wife at the iftaar part thrown by Shah Rukh Khan at his palatial bungalow, Mannat.
Here’s wishing Bollywood’s favourite thespian a healthy and speedy recovery.
