MUMBAI: Ayushmann Khurrana in an action film, now that's something different. But even in an action film, you will get a taste of the humour that the actor is known for. Writer-director Anirudh Iyer has tried to mix the Ayushmann kind of comedy to action. But, does he succeed in it? Read on to know more.
An Action Hero revolves around Maanav (Ayushmann) who is an action star in Bollywood. But, one incident changes his life and he has to run to London to save himself. However, it's not that easy for this superstar and his life becomes a rollercoaster ride.
The story of the film is written by Anirudh Iyer and the screenplay and dialogues are penned by Neeraj Yadav. The first half of the film is simply boring. Even the action sequences aren't great to keep you hooked to the screens.

The movie becomes quite better in the second half, and the climax will just blow your mind. Anirudh and Neeraj maybe believe in the saying, 'save the best for the last'. But what about the film as a whole? Also, one of the negative points in the film is that there's no female lead. Maanav is a superstar but he has no family, no girlfriend, no wife. The makers have not shown his background at all.
Talking about performances, Ayushmann Khurrana has once again proved his versatility. There's no doubt that he has an amazing comic timing, but this time he has perfectly performed action with the right swag. Jaideep Ahlawat as usual is at his best. There are a few supporting actors in the film, but none of them get a scope to shine. Akshay Kumar's cameo will surely make you laugh out loud. Anyway, it's a treat to watch Malaika Arora on the big screen after a long time.
When it comes to music, the songs in the film don't have much to do apart from Baat Ban Jaye. But, the background score is really good and suits the film's theme.
Overall, An Action Hero is a strictly average film. If you clearly don't have anything to do this weekend, maybe you can give it a try or wait for its OTT release.
Ratings: 2.5/5
