Actress Geetika Tyagi accuses Jolly LLB director Subhash Kapoor of molesting her, director denies the charge

Geetika Tyagi
Phas Gaya Re Subhash! The director of the critically acclaimed Jolly LLB Subhash Kapoor found himself in the middle of an unwanted soup yesterday, when actress Geetika Tyagi accused him of sexually molesting her. The molestation charge was leveled through a video link that was uploaded on You Tube. The video which seems to have been shot using a hidden camera captures a heated discussion involving Kapoor, his wife Dimple Kharbanda, Geetika and Atul Sabharwal (director of Aurangazeb) where Geetika accuses Subhash of molesting her at a house party. In the video Geetika says that Subhash dragged her by her hand to then bedroom, but then she can be heard saying that he stopped when she asked him to. Subhash too, is heard saying that he is ashamed of what happened and is ready to face the consequences. Meanwhile, Dimple can be seen pleading with Geetika to keep the matter under wraps for the sake of her son who she felt would suffer from grave ignominy if the dirty linen were to be washed in public. Geetika, who remains physically hidden for most part of the video, at one point bursts out hysterically and comes into the frame and slaps the director. She then tells Dimple that the slap will help her heal. Geetika also made clear her intentions of uploading the video through a statement. “My intentions for uploading this video are: a) to caution those girls who will come in contact with this man, Subhash Kapoor, socially or professionally and will make the mistake of looking up to him as father-figure or as an elder brother and trust him and b) for all girls who, if god forbid become victims of sexual assault, not to give in to pleading of their attacker's wife, sister, mother, daughter or any woman who claims to be suffering and asks for your forgiveness for attacker. It is not easy to upload this. Like that sexual assault, this too is invasion of my privacy that I am compelled to compromise by my own conscious to expose what Subash Kapoor did to me. A woman suffers in both the scenarios, when she stays quiet and when she speaks up. I hope this fate does not befall on any woman anywhere.” While the molestation charge has sent shockwaves through the industry, not everyone is convinced. Geetika’s friend, script writer Danish Raza uploaded this post on his Facebook profile, minutes after Geetika’s video went viral. “As the first hand witness to the evening on which Geetika Tyagi has based her allegations of molestation on Subhash Kapoor, both mutual friends introduced by me, and having been there with them 90% of the time that night, I need to put some facts on record. 1. Geetika's first narration to me of this incident, the day after it happened was not of sexual assault. To me it clearly sounded like something that happened between two people and there was no mention of an assault. Her first version was exactly same as Subhash's (consistent) version and her version changed only two days later when she alleged, in the presence of Atul Sabharwal, that 'force' was used. Even in that case she says Subhash stopped when she said 'stop" so where is molestation in it? 2. At 5 am, which must have been in the middle of the incident when she messaged me asking if I have reached home, and I called her back in response immediately, she very coolly told me "Subhash has woken up and he is leaving". There was no mention of the incident, forget force or molestation. ...And why am I doing this? Well for the same reason that I told her "Had you even hinted of molestation, at 5 a.m. in the morning I would have been the 1st person to go with you to the police station." What’s interesting to note is a tweet from Geetika dated 9th February where she linked a Buzzfeed post that celebrated survivors of sexual assault. This tweet received a reply from Atul Sabharwal who told Geetika that it was time to completely expose the one who attached you. ‘You know it is time,” tweeted Atul. We tried getting in touch with Geetika but her phone was predictably switched off. We also tried getting a reaction from actress Amrita Rao who had acted in Jolly LLB. She didn’t respond to our calls or text messages. Subhash, meanwhile was quoted telling a leading tabloid that he was planning to consult a lawyer to decide on the future course of action to be adopted.
