Dilip Kumar discharged from hospital

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar, 95, was on Thursday discharged here from a hospital where he was being treated for recurrent pneumonia, said his family friend.

Faisal Farooqui, who tweets on behalf of the thespian, informed his fans via social media that Dilip Kumar has been discharged from the hospital and is now resting at home.

"Doctors have advised complete rest, isolation for few days to prevent infection. Thank you all for your prayers," Farooqui wrote.

Dilip Kumar was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital here on 7 October due to severe chest congestion.

The nonagenarian, known for films like Kohinoor, Mughal-e-Azam, Shakti, Naya Daur and Ram Aur Shyam, was admitted to the hospital here last month too due to pneumonia.

Want to do an action film: Manushi Chhillar

Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar says if she gets an opportunity to work in the film industry, she would love to do a project in the action space.

"I would like to do an action movie, and in which I am doing the action. I don't want to be a damsel in distress. I want to be a superhero. I would love to do that," Manushi said here on Wednesday at the Big FM radio station when she was present to celebrate women power.

There were reports that filmmaker Karan Johar was keen to launch Manushi under his banner when she won the Miss World title, but there isn't any development on that front.

Asked when she will feature in movies, she said, "I don't have a production house, so I can't tell you that when my film will come. In life, all things have come to me as a surprise and I didn't have any plans to do films. So let's see how it goes."

Manushi went on to win the title of fbb Femina Miss India Haryana in April 2017. She represented the state of Haryana in annual Femina Miss India competition and was crowned Femina Miss India 2017 in the finale held on 25 June 2017, later going on to win the Miss World crown.

How is she spending her life after becoming a beauty queen?

"It has been going pretty well. It has been eleven months since I have became Miss World. I have been to all continents of the world. I have travelled a lot and I met lot of people and last eleven months have been a roller-coaster ride for me.

"I have learned so many things in the last eleven months which I haven't learnt in the last eleven years of my life. After all this, I don't know what next year holds for me."

Manushi was pursuing medical studies. She took a break from her studies for the preparations of the Miss World title.

Asked when will she be able to treat patients, she said, "I hope people never get a need to visit a doctor, but people can come to Dr. Manushi Chhillar after three years when I will complete my medical studies."

Shekhar Kapur makes short film on water crisis

Shekhar Kapur's Paani might not have seen the light of the day, but that hasn’t deterred him from making a film on water crisis.

The filmmaker has collaborated with WaterAid to create a short animation Brides of the Well, adapted from a story written by Kapur himself. It highlights water scarcity issues and how it impacts on women and girls globally, read a statement.

Narrated by Bend it like Beckham star Parminder Nagra, Brides of the Well tells the story of Saraswati and Paras, who are forced into child marriage and a life of servitude, centred on walking long distances to collect water for their aging husbands. It launched on Thursday to mark the International Day of the Girl.

Though fictional, Kapur's film highlights the plight of young girls across India who -- like those depicted in his animation movie -- are bound to a life dominated by walking long distances to collect water.

"Water is one of the world's most precious resources. But for those who live with water on tap, it can be difficult to imagine how life would be if water wasn't so accessible," Kapur said.

"That is why I wanted to tell the story of Paras and Saraswati and show how people across the world live every day without water, dictating their futures, dreams and prospects. It is a great injustice that one in nine people still live without access to clean water around the world."

V.K. Madhavan, Chief Executive at WaterAid India, added, "The burden of fetching water is predominantly borne by women and girls, preventing them from reaching their full potential. This affects their education, health and livelihood opportunities. This must change."

WaterAid worked with visual storytelling agency Nucco Brain to bring the story to life, with creative input from Kapur and music composed by Yao Wang.

If we talk about Paani, Kapur's ambitious project had to go on floors in mid-2013 with Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role. But nothing has been announced on that front.

Give girls a chance at everything, urges Priyanka Chopra

Actress Priyanka Chopra, who features in a YouTube video launched on International Day of the Girl Child on Thursday, says girls must be given a chance to follow their dreams and they will do everything.

The video is aimed at generating awareness around the importance of girls' education in India.

As part of a mission to give everyone a voice and show them the world, YouTube, along with Priyanka, Bhuvan Bam, Prajakta Koli, and Vidya Vox will be releasing a series of ads to highlight the importance of educating girls.

Among a series of four ads running over the next several weeks, Priyanka, a globally acclaimed actress and Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, is breaking common stereotypes girls are used to hearing in the country today.

In the video, Priyanka says, "As girls grow up, the list of instructions grow as well. 'Ladkiyan zaada uchal kud nahin karte (Don't jump around too much)', 'Ladkiyan uchi awaaz main nahin bolti (girls don't raise their voice)', 'Padhai main kya rakha hai (whats's the point in studying so hard)', 'Ghar hi toh sambhalna hai (you will be managing the house after all)'... so what are girls to do.

"Girls will follow their dreams and will do everything."

The video ends with an appeal to give girls a chance at everything.

Highlighting the cause and lending support to the campaign, Priyanka has also written a guest blog which starts with her "entering a village school full of young girls" and how she was "greeted by peals of laughter".

"...there was a break in which they were all play acting - one was wearing a makeshift lab coat and playing doctor, another young one was wearing big glasses, holding a chalk in one hand, and was playing teacher, while one had made a huge tower from blocks and was pointing to her becoming a civil engineer and making big buildings. Where was I? It's not important because I have travelled to the remotest villages with Unicef across India and seen the same over and over again."

Priyanka added, "Those smiles and their dreams, their trust in us, the faith in their dreams and role playing -- have constantly reinstated my hope. Over a decade of working with Unicef to empower the girl child, to ensure access to education for the girls, is working - maybe in small steps, but the efforts can be seen. The statistics staring at us may be staggering but then, let us not focus on how big the numbers are."

She says that worldwide, over 250 million children and youth are out of school.

"The battle is global. Which means, more effort from all of us as a responsible society. If the battle is big, let's match our efforts to that scale, and up the ante on how we can help reduce that number. Bring more smiles, send more girls to school, ensure less dropouts and empower every girl child's dream."

Parenting is where the reward, love and care is: Soha Ali Khan

Actress Soha Ali Khan says since she became a mother, she has developed more respect for her own mother and thinks that parenting is where the real reward, love and care is.

Soha interacted with the media at a special screening of a Touch Of Care campaign by Vicks here on Wednesday. She was joined on stage by cricketer Gautam Gambhir and actress Shriya Saran.

"I always thought what it's like to be a mother. When you become a mother, you respect your mother so much more. For the first time last week, I left my daughter Inaaya alone with my husband Kunal (Kemmu) and he called me up at the end of the day and said he has so much respect for the fact that I do this every day," Soha said here.

She said the couple had even thought of adopting a child earlier.

"It's not about biology. When I was thinking about having a child and wasn't sure whether we would have a biological child and we were open to adoption... That time I spoke to a friend of mine and she said the question is not are you ready to be a mother or be pregnant or have a child.

"The question is, are you ready to be a parent? Anyone can be a parent whether you have a biological child or not. And parenting is where the reward, love, and care is," added Soha, author of "The Perils of Being Moderately Famous".

Daughter Shweta helps Big B choose right scripts

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan says his daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda is a great help to him when it comes to choosing the right script to act in.

Amitabh addressed the media at the launch of Shweta's debut novel "Paradise Towers" here on Wednesday.

He said Shweta is opinionated and a lot of times they both discuss about various issues across the world.

"She really is the best actor in the family. She is also very perceptive about observations and I do rely on her many a times as just a rest of the family on many incidents that may happen within the city, home, country and world. She has an opinion. Many times, we discuss the outcome of a film that I may have done or a film that she may have seen. I have to say that she is always been right.

"When she says the film is going to do well, it does well and when she says it's not going to do well, it doesn't. So many times, I have begun to share some of my scripts with her. I am afraid, I couldn't do that earlier and I want an excuse for that but recently though she has been extremely helpful and very perceptive in giving me ideas and thoughts on what I was working on," Big B said.

He said he can only give her love and blessings, and thanked the audience for encouraging Shweta "to grow not just as my daughter but as a woman and a lady".

When Shweta's mother Jaya was asked to share what she felt about her daughter becoming an author, she said, "I knew she would do this. Since she was a child, I knew that she would someday write. It was a mother's instinct. I think she is very inspired by Karan Johar's screenplay writing because the way he does the detailing of his characters in films, is what Shweta has done in this book.

"I was actually quite surprised and I keep asking her if 'this character resembles that person we knew', and then she would say 'No, no, not at all'."

Set in an apartment building in Mumbai of a certain vintage, unlike the new-fangled high-rises dotting the city, "Paradise Towers" revolves around the lives of the residents. If the demographic is carefully inclusive -- Bengalis, Gujaratis, NRIs, Muslims -- the characters faithfully conform to every cliche associated with the communities.

Never give up: Suniel tells son Ahan Shetty

As his son Ahan Shetty gets set to start shooting his debut film, veteran actor Suniel Shetty has shared some words of wisdom for him.

"Congratulations Phantom! A new journey begins today my baby. No matter how you feel. Get up. Dress up. Show up. Scream, Cry, but never give up! Ahan Shetty, Sajid Nadiadwala," Suniel tweeted.

Ahan will reportedly make his debut with the remake of Telugu hit RX 100, which will release in 2019.

Actress Athiya Shetty, Ahan's sister, also tweeted in support of the newcomer, saying she will always be his biggest cheerleader.

"Baby brother, I wish you nothing but the best. All the love and success, but most importantly, every bit of happiness, patience and never ending faith. I will always be your biggest cheerleader, forever and ever. May you shine so bright, my Junior. Keep it real."

A post from the official Twitter account of Sajid Nadiadwala's production banner read, "Lots of love and a big warm hug is how you were welcomed to the NGE Family and now kickstarting an exciting journey ahead! A GRANDson launch for Ahan Shetty".

'Badhaai Ho' my cleanest film: Ayushmann Khurrana

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana says his forthcoming film Badhaai Ho is his "cleanest film" so far as earlier he has worked in movies around some taboo subjects of society.

Ayushmann interacted with the media here as the makers of Badhaai Ho hosted a baby shower for 50 expecting mothers, along with his co-actors Sanya Malhotra, Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta, producer Priti Shahani and director Amit Ravindernath Sharma here on Wednesday.

Badhaai Ho revolves around an old couple becoming parents again. The comedy-drama features Ayushmann as the son of an elderly couple who find out that they would be turning parents for the third time.

"People have now started calling me Men's Grihshobha (women's magazine) because I have been a part of films which depicted issues of men. But this ('Badhaai Ho') is the cleanest film of mine because it is neither based on sperm donation ('Vicky Donor') and nor based on erectile dysfunction ('Shubh Mangal Saavdhan').

"You don't have to tell your child what's happening in the film while watching it... It's a completely fun and quirky family entertainer," said the actor.

Since Ayushmann plays a man whose parents are expecting a baby in old age, asked how he looks at this situation, Ayushmann said, "If this would have happened with me in my real life, then I also would have felt embarrassed but eventually it's a decision of the mother and father.

"Our parents should have their own choices to lead their life, but it gets a bit too much when your parents are expecting a baby when you are all grown up but I thing eventually it's their decision."

The film will release on 19 October.
