Akshay Kumar is to be at Edgbaston (UK) to watch the keenly awaited India-Pakistan clash, in the ongoing Champions Trophy that is to take place on 15 June (2013). Kumar, who is currently holidaying with his family in New York, will cut it short and fly to watch the match.
Kumar’s character (Shoaib) in the upcoming Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara (OUATIMD) will be seen as a powerful don who wields the power to influence a cricket match. Co-incidentally, the match shown in the film is that of India and Pakistan.
Incidentally, the Balaji Motion Pictures’ film is the only project that has been integrated with this all-important match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Industry sources are expecting huge viewership from cricket-loving fans (particularly, the Asians) the world over for this match.
While Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara that is set in the 80s will see the actor essay the role of a cricket-loving gangster, the makers, keeping with the essence of the film and the actor’s role, thought it a great idea to promote the film during the match. However, it is unlikely that he will be seen in the look of his character while in the stadium.
Confirming the news, CEO-Balaji Motion Pictures Tanuj Garg said, “As a company known for pushing the envelope on marketing, we will have our Shoaib attending the India-Pakistan match at Edgbaston. Cricket is a perfect fit with his character in the film as evidenced in the film’s first trailer as well.”
The film is scheduled to release on 15 August (Independence Day), 2013.
