In the remake of Basu Chatterjee's 1982 comedy Shaukeen, Akshay Kumar will be seen romancing Nargis Fakhri.
In the film, the Singh Is King actor will reprise the role essayed by Mithun Chakraborty while Rockstar actress Nargis will portray the part essayed by Rati Agnihotri. In the original, Mithun played the role of Rati's boyfriend.
The remake will be directed by Rumi Jaffrey who had earlier helmed God Tussi Great Ho. “Though we have just bought the rights of Shaukeen, but have changed a lot of things to suit the sensibilities of today's audience. My film will have Akshay and Nargis. It would be a good combination of the talented Nargis and Akshay who are brilliant actors," Rumi averred.
The characters of Akshay and Nargis have been rewritten for the remake version. The makers are in the process of finalising the dates of the actors.
After Nargis missed out on sharing screen space with Akshay in Khiladi 786 last year, the film will be the first in which Akshay will finally work with Nargis.
The original had Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and AK Hangal who were shown as attracted to the much-younger Rati Agnihotri, their roles would be reprised by Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher.
The shooting of the film is expected to begin later this year.
Rumi has also confirmed that he will also remake Chatterjee's 1984 film Lakhon Ki Baat that had Sanjeev Kumar, Farooque Shaikh, Anita Raj, Utpal Dutt and Dinesh Hingoo among others.
