Anti-smoking disclaimer makes Woody Allen stall the release Blue Jasmine in India

Blue Jasmine
Don’t you detest the anti-smoking disclaimer band that remains perennial present on cinema screens these days? Well, looks like you are not alone. Oscar winning director Woody Allen has decided against releasing his movie Blue Jasmine in India because of the anti-tobacco disclaimers which make an appearance in scenes where characters smoke. It is believed that Woody wanted the film to be shown in India the way it is beamed in west. And that would have meant the absence of any anti-tobacco disclaimer strips. When the director was informed about the Indian restrictions, he refused to make "customizations" in the film to accommodate the ads and wanted the film to be shown as it is without any further additions. This ultimate led PVR Pictures to cancel the release. Blue Jasmine, which stars Cate Blanchett as a wealthy New York socialite was slated to release in India last weekend, three months after its U.S. release. But given our government’s obstinate stand on inserting anti-smoking disclaimers in every smoking scene, we may well be denied the experience of seeing Woody Allen’s latest masterpiece on the big screen.
