Anupam Kher turns 64; parties with De Niro

Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who turned 64 on Thursday, celebrated his birthday with Hollywood star Robert De Niro.

As Anupam is busy shooting for his show New Amsterdam here, American hedge fund manager Barry Rosenstein hosted a birthday dinner for him.

Rosenstein was introduced to Anupam by his Silver Linings Playbook co-star De Niro.

For the The Accidental Prime Minister actor, "it was a dream come true that Mr. De Niro was part of my birthday for two years in a row".

"It was a wonderful dinner hosted by Barry Rosenstein and it was so gracious of him to host it in my honour," he added.

The dinner was an intimate affair with close friends including the acclaimed Indian doctor and cancer specialist Siddharth Mukherjee and his artist wife Sara.

Last year, De Niro threw a birthday party for Anupam.

On the occasion of Anupam's birthday, his wife Kirron Kher, also an actress and politician, posted a special note for him.

"Anupam, you have been my strength ever since I've known you. This day is very special to me, more special than my own birthday. Here's wishing you a very, very happy birthday and all the glory that you deserve! Lots and lots of love," she wrote on Instagram along with their photographs.

Rishi Kapoor denies returning home this month

Actor Rishi Kapoor has denied any plans to return to India this month.

There has been a buzz about the ailing actor's return to India after his treatment in the US.

According to reports, Rishi is said to have communicated to a friend that he is likely to return to India by March end.

However, on being contacted in the US, Rishi denied any plans to return to India in the near future.

So what is Rishi Kapoor's health report?

The much-loved brilliant actor has responded well to the treatment. But the healing process is taking time.

A source close to the Kapoor family said, "Rishi is homesick and very eager to return home. They have a wedding to plan (son Ranbir Kapoor is reportedly set to marry Alia Bhatt). And he's counting the days.

"But he's not ready yet to return. His treatment is slow but steady. Hopefully, he can come home in a few months. But end of this month? No way!"

I have an opinion, but I like to keep it to myself: Alia Bhatt

Actress Alia Bhatt has responded to Kangana Ranaut's criticism regarding celebrities who don't take a stand on political and social issues by saying that she has an opinion on matters, but she likes to keep it to herself.

Alia was interacting with the media at the fourth edition of Outlook Business magazine's 'Women of Worth' awards here on Wednesday.

Kangana recently criticised actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Alia and Ranveer Singh for not voicing their opinions on political topics and for staying aloof from issues concerning the society at large.

Commenting on this, Alia said, "I definitely don't have that ability to speak as candidly as Kangana does and I really respect her for that. Maybe, in a way she is right that sometimes we do hold back because we don't want to talk unnecessarily about an issue."

"My dad (filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt) always says that there are already so many opinions in the world, so the world can do with one less opinion. So, I have an opinion but I will keep it to myself. But kudos to her (Kangana) because she genuinely speaks really well."

On being part of Kalank, Alia said, "It has been an unbelievable journey and it is an honour to be a part of such an ensemble cast. The director ofKalank, Abhishek Verman is a very close friend of mine. I think all of us, including him, have done a lot of hard work for this film.

"It's just the beginning... There will not be one dull moment until Kalank releases."

Kalank is a period drama produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios.

Set for release on 19 April, it stars Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Kunal Kemmu and Sanjay Dutt, apart from Alia.

'KGF' success has boosted morale of Kannada film industry: Yash

Actor Yash believes the phenomenal success of KGF: Chapter 1, which struck gold at the box office and won over audiences across languages, has given the Kannada movie industry a platform to dream big and make films without inhibitions.

Prashant Neel-directed KGF is the first Kannada film to breach into the Rs 200 crore club worldwide.

The film was dubbed and released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam. It did exceptionally well in all languages.

"The success of KGF means a lot to the Kannada industry, especially to a lot of our talented technicians who don't get the due they deserve. This success has boosted the morale of Kannada industry. It has justified the talent of Prashant Neel," Yash told leading publication.

He said the success of KGF has made people take Kannada industry "seriously".

"The perception about Kannada industry has changed. People across industries are now taking us seriously. A lot of our talented technicians have been looking for a platform and KGF has provided them that pedestal. This success means a lot to all the untapped talent of our industry," he said.

Yash still sounds grounded, in spite of delivering one of the biggest blockbusters in recent times. He said he doesn't like to dwell upon success or failure for too long.

"If you dwell upon success or failure for too long, you can't move ahead and achieve what you want. I'm glad KGF turned out to be a blockbuster, but honestly the process of making the film excited me more than the result. As an actor, this success would help me take bigger steps," he explained.

It has been over three months since the release of KGF and it is all set for its television premiere on Sony Max on 9 March.

Yash is eagerly looking forward to the TV premiere. He says as much as people enjoy watching movies in cinemas and on streaming platforms, the reach of television is still unprecedented.

"Given the population of our country and considering how many people actually show up in cinemas to watch a film, I believe the reach of television is still phenomenal and is a big deal. A lot of people who watch a film in theatre would like to revisit it on TV with their entire family and that's why television premieres are important," he said.

Yash is gearing up to commence shooting for KGF: Chapter 2 from April. He says it will be "bigger" and "better" than the first part.

"When we made KGF: Chapter 1, we had our own inhibitions and restricted ourselves in some way. But with this kind of success in our side, we are going all out to make the second part. We now know people are keenly looking forward to the second part and we can deliver it without any reservations. We have reserved the best for chapter 2," he added.
