Business journalist Kavita Thapliyal makes a 'Filmistaani' debut

Every stockbroker in our country knows her. She has interviewed some of the top notch industrialists of our country live on air. Meet business journalist cum anchor Kavita Thapliyal, a perfect epitome of beauty with brains who also made her Bollywood debut last week with Filmistaan. The only female lead of the movie, Kavita made quite an impression with her graceful screen presence in the first half of the movie. Though the movie was completely dominated by the two male leads, Kavita's character 'Mandy' seamlessly eased into the plot making sure that her presence didn't go unnoticed. Speaking about how she landed the role, Kavita says, "A friend of mine who worked as an AD for Filmistaan casually mentioned that there is a role in the movie which could suit my personality. So I thought of giving it a shot and attended the auditions for the same. Luckily, I got selected and that is how it happened." Kavita, who is usually seen anchoring major shows on a top business channel, finds film shoots to be much more relaxing than on-air anchoring. Says Kavita, "I had a blast shooting for Filmistaan. While anchoring live shows we operate from a controlled environment. But on film sets, you have more time to prepare yourself and have the luxury of giving retakes." A known face on television, Kavita's presence was noted even in the promos where people started recognising her voice. "Many called me to ask if it was me in the promo because they could recognise my voice," says a happy Kavita. The pretty anchor's presence in the movie also made her colleagues rush to the nearby theaters to watch the movie. "Many of them who normally don't watch movies, saw Filmistaan just for me," remarks Kavita and also adds that her superiors were extremely supportive and kind in granting her the necessary leaves for filming her part. While Kavita has been a business journalist for close to eight years now and have carved out a niche for herself, what comes as a surprise is the fact that she comes from a film family. Her father Sushil Kumar Thapliyal was the right hand man of the late music baron Gulshan Kumar and is today associated with T-series in an influential capacity. Despite having the wherewithal to be launched in a grand manner, Kavita chose to live life as it comes, making good use of whatever came her way. "I have done some acting before as well. I was a part of DD show long time back and have also done some photoshoots. The journalism just happened. I started out with lifestyle and Bollywood before graduating into business." Though the journalist inside her is still kicking and growing strong, Kavita is open to doing more meaningful and performance-oriented roles in the near future. "I am looking out for meaty roles and not commercial or masala cinema. I won't take up anything and everything. If anything good comes my way, I will surely take it up," explains Kavita. Ask her who she would like to romance on screen and pat comes the reply, "Ranveer Singh. I love his body." There you go Ranveer. A cerebral beauty falling prey to your charms this. We so envy you man. As for now Kavita is basking in glory of Filmistaan which has impressed one and all. The champagne moment for her happened last week when while watching the movie in a theater, a man seated in the front row loudly exclaimed on seeing her film character, Mandy onscreen, "Hey I know her. She is Kavita Thapliyal, the business anchor." Kavita who was seated behind silently whispered to herself, "Yes, you are right. That's me."
