BTS first K-pop group to present at Grammys

South Korean boy band BTS made history as the first K-pop group to present at the Grammy Awards.

The seven-member boy band, dressed in custom tuxedos, took the stage on Sunday for the best R&B Album category, awarding the Grammy to H.E.R. for her self-titled album.

"Growing up in South Korea, we always dreamed of being on the Grammys stage. Thank you to all our fans for making this dream come true and we'll be back," said RM.

After coming on the music scene in 2016, BTS - Bangtan Sonyeondan or Beyond the Scene - has skyrocketed into international fame following three world tours and several highly successful albums.

Their most recent, Love Yourself: Tear, became the first K-Pop album to reach number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart and was also nominated for best recording package (artwork) at this year's Grammys, alongside the Seoul-based branding outfit HuskyFox.

Cardi B makes history at Grammys 2019

Rapper Cardi B made history by becoming the first solo female artiste to win Best Rap Album at the Grammys.

With the victory for Invasion of Privacy, the 26-year-old rapper joined Lauryn Hill as the only female winner in the award's 23-year history. Hill won in 1997 as a member of The Fugees, reports leading publication.

Cardi was overwhelmed with emotions upon taking the stage on Sunday night, joking, "The nerves are so bad. Maybe I should start smoking weed."

"I want to thank my daughter... I'm not just saying thank you because she's my daughter. It's because, you know, when I found out I was pregnant, my album was not complete, like three songs that I was for sure having.

"And then you know, you know how it was, we were like, we have to get this album done so I could still do videos while I'm still not showing. And it was very long nights."

The first Grammy win of her career was just the latest big moment of the night for the rapper.

On the Grammys red carpet, she reconciled with her husband Offset official (only further amplified by him holding her hand during the acceptance speech).

Jimmy Carter wins Grammy for spoken word album

Jimmy Carter, the 39th US President, has won his second Grammy for Spoken Word Album for his biography Faith - A Journey For All.

This personal reflection by the 94-year-old, considers how faith has sustained him throughout good times and bad.

He won his first in 2016 for A Full Life: Reflections at 90, reports variety.com.

Carter is one of three US Presidents to win a Grammy, alongside Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

The spoken word category includes poetry, audio books, and storytelling.

The 61st Grammy Awards was being held at the Staples Center here on 10 February.

Diana Ross gives 'supreme' birthday performance at Grammys

At the 2019 Grammy Awards, songstress Diana Ross wished herself a 75th birthday like few can -- singing away, surrounded by her family members, and to an audience that gladly sang along.

Diana, who first rose to fame as the lead singer of the vocal group the Supremes, was introduced on the stage by her nine-year-old grandson Raif-Henok Emmanuel Kendrick.

"She is amazing and young people like me can look up to her for her independence, confidence and her willingness to be her unique self. She has shown the whole world that nothing is beyond our reach," he said, before adding, "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my grand mommy Diana Ross!"

Diana, who will turn 75 years in March, appeared in front of the crowd wearing a magnificent red gown. Before she began singing, she said, "When I was a little girl, I felt the joy of singing. It made me happy, it made my parents happy, and it led to this day."

The best years of my life and Reach out and touch are some of the songs she performed as her family members cheered her on from the front row.

She walked into the audience at the Staples Center, where her fellow Motown star Smokey Robinson and Motown founder Berry Gordy looked at her with pride.

Diana has been nominated for 12 Grammys, but has never won except for a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

She ended her performance by declaring "Happy birthday to me!" twice.

Drake cut off during acceptance speech at Grammys

Rapper Drake made a surprise appearance at the 61st annual Grammy Awards here, but was cut off during his acceptance speech.

Drake picked up his trophy for best rap song for God's plan.

But he was cut off during his speech right after a pause and saying "But", leading viewers to speculate whether show producers deliberately did it -- amid some mild shade he was throwing at the very idea of awards shows -- or whether they just figured he'd wrapped up, reports leading publication.

At nearly the two-hour point of the show, country duo Dan + Shay seemed cheerful when they announced Drake's name as winner for the Best Rap Song.

Right when everyone was thinking someone should tell them to calm down and accept on the absentee's behalf, there was Drake, emerging from under the stage.

He called it "the first time in Grammy history where I actually am who I thought I was for a second, so I like that".

He asked "the kids watching, those aspiring to do music, and all my peers that make music from their heart, that do things pure and tell the truth" to "know we play in an opinion-based sport, not a factual-based sport. It is not the NBA. This is a business where sometimes it is up to a bunch of people that might not understand what a mixed race kid from Canada has to say or a brother from Houston right there, my brother Travis.

"You've already won if you have people who are singing your songs word for word, if you are a hero in your hometown. If there are people who have regular jobs who are coming out in the rain, in the snow, spending their hard-earned money to buy tickets to come to your shows, you don't need this right here, I promise you, you already won."

And then, mid-sentence, the show cut to commercial.

Falguni Shah, Prashant Mistry lose at Grammys 2019

Falguni Shah and Prashant Mistry of Indian origin have lost at the ongoing Grammys, which is also being attended by Grammy and Oscar-winning Indian musician A.R. Rahman.

London-based Indian music producer, mix and mastering engineer Prashant Mistry's album Symbol was nominated for the Best Immersive Audio Album at the 61st Grammy Awards. The honour went to Eye In The Sky - 35th Anniversary Edition.

Falguni, on the other hand, was nominated for her album Falu's Bazaar in the Best Children's Music. The award was given to Lucy Kalantari & The Jazz Cats for All The Sounds.

Meanwhile, Rahman tweeted a photograph that featured him, his daughter Raheema and others, ahead of the ceremony on Sunday night. He captioned it: "All set to go for Grammy Awards night."

He has been updating about the ceremony to his millions of fans on Instagram by posting photographs from there. It includes a photograph featuring the legendary singer Dolly Parton on stage.
