MUMBAI: Cricketer-actor and ex selector of Indian Cricket team Salil Ankola is a simple guy when it comes to fashion. He would prefer a simple denim look than a designer one. He explains his POV,”I don’t keep track of anybody’s collections. I am just a jeans and shirt or track pant and T-shirt guy. I’m not much into designer stuff or any of this branding. It really doesn’t bother me. Whatever fits me, I wear. In fact, my chest size is about 50–51, and I doubt any designer can make that kind of fitting here in India. I’m not really into the latest designs anyway.”
Salil also shares his point of view on the exorbitant prices of big designer brands. He adds,”I have noticed there have been a lot of viral tags going around on social media saying that the making price is different, they get it outsourced, and then they put the label price 10 times higher or whatever it is. I’m not much into designer stuff, so I really don’t know if you ask me whether it is justified. I can see people are buying it, that’s why they are selling at those prices. If I was buying, then I would find it unjustified. But I am someone who is not into buying expensive labels. The only expensive thing which is very close to my heart is my Harley Davidson biker boots and of course, the Harley Davidson jacket. I love anything that has to do with Harley Davidson. That’s about it. Nothing else. I cherish my Harley Davidson stuff a lot.”
Salil who is known for his good looks and well built body has been part of modelling world as well. As a sportsman he has always maintained his fitness mantra high, but for the fashion he has always chosen the simple way. He says, ”I’m a simple guy. I’m very comfortable in jeans and T-shirt, shorts and T-shirt, jeans and a shirt, or track pants and T-shirt. I don’t even wear formal leather shoes. I’m more of a sneaker guy. So I keep it very simple. I don’t waste time thinking about clothing and designer stuff or what is the latest. Also in my family we all are not so brand conscious so it's a very secondary thought. I don’t indulge in them.”
