Ram Gopal Varma’s penchant to put his foot in his mouth has landed him in trouble once again. Viveck Shettyy, Managing Director, Indus communications and Head of Media Cell, CGSI (Consumer Guidance Society of India) has lodged a criminal complaint under sections 295-A, 505 OF IPC against the maverick director in the Metropolitian Magistrate’s Court at Andheri for passing obscene comments and observations against Lord Ganesha on Twitter.
Speaking about his decision to lodge the complaint, Viveck said, “Ram Gopal Varma’s comments are deliberate and malicious and clearly intended to outrage religious feelings and thereby constitutes an offence under the Indian penal code. He shouldn’t be allowed to go scott-free after passing such deplorable comments and that the law will take its own course.”
Ramu however remained defiant even in the face of the criminal complaint lodged against him. When contacted to know his reaction, Ramu said, “I am within my rights to express my views as a citizen of the country having freedom of speech. Also I didn’t not speak against God but only asked some questions pertaining to some stories connected to God.
Vivek however was not impressed by Ramu’s response and remarked, “If he says he was well within his rights then why did he apologise. Let the court decide whether he should be punished or not.”
The next date of hearing is 30 September.
