MUMBAI: In 1988, the musical love drama Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak cast actor Dalip Tahil as superstar Aamir Khan's father. Tahil has said that at the time of signing, he was in his early 30s. Dalip claimed that Aamir and he are barely ten years apart in age. When asked if he would portray Aamir's father in the most recent Cyrus Says episode, Dalip responded that while there wasn't much of an age difference between them, it was something that discouraged other actors from accepting the role.
“It was my first father role, and the film was a game changer for me. I am ten years older than Aamir. In fact, that was the reason why quite a few actors didn’t take the role as they didn’t want to do a father role. That’s what Nasir Hussain sir (producer) had told me. I was in my early 30s at the time and didn’t think about it twice, the role was fantastic and so I did it.”
When asked if he felt worried that he would be stereotyped after the film as an on-screen father, Dalip said that wasn’t the case at the time, but he later did feel the rampant typecast that was coming into play.
“There was no question of fearing typecast because it was my first time. After that I got a lot of father roles and then I was worried about being typecast, because that is a problem with all actors. If something succeeds, everyone wants you to play the same thing all over again. But fortunately for me I managed to do other stuff,” he added.
Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla made their big-screen debuts as lovers in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The movie made Aamir and Juhi famous and was a huge hit. The Family Man Season 3, which stars Manoj Bajpayee and is directed by Raj and DK, will feature Dalip Tahil in his upcoming film.
