Deepika Padukone 'alone' in her moment of glory?

Deepika Padukone
What happens when you win an award that is considered tantamount to winning an Oscar in India. You expect the entire world to congratulate you on your success. But quite the reverse happened at Filmfare awards held last Friday, at Yashraj studios. Deepika Padukone, who had just won the Filmfare for the best actress, apparently didn't find a single industry biggie in the VIP arena where the party shifted post the award ceremony. Did her so-called 'friends' play truant? Says an eye witness present in the VIP lounge, "Deepika walked in accompanied by her family members. Surprisingly there was not a single Bollywood biggie present there to congratulate her on her big day. Deepika who was brimming with happiness was kept company by her sister and her celebrity managers. Unfortunately, none of her industry colleagues were seen anywhere around. The only exceptions were Shruti Hassan and Neil Nitin Mukesh who were gracious enough to walk up to Deepika and wish her." We wonder where exactly the Bollywood lot disappeared after the award ceremony. Undoubtedly this was one of the poorly attended Filmfare but nevertheless those present curiously chose to stay away from the VIP lounge. Interestingly, Neil who wished Deepika starred with her in a Yashraj Film production, Lafangey Parinde. Preity Zinta was another star in the VIP area after the event. Continues the eyewitness, "Deepika stayed in the party for close to 45 minutes. She graciously obliged every autograph and photo ops request from those present with a smile on her face. But it surely did look like Deepika expected to see more familiar faces from the industry in the VIP area." So why was Deepika deserted in her moment of glory? The illustrious names Deepika has worked with indulged in a no-show on Friday night. While SRK was injured, Rohit Shetty, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Saif Ali Khan, Ayan Mukherjee and many others whom Deepika has worked with chose to give Filmfare a miss for reasons best known to them. And while her current beau Ranveer made her 'laugh' with his antics on stage while she was seated next to Vineet Jain, MD, Times Group, he was not present at the VIP area during the post-event party. Even her ex, Ranbir Kapoor didn't make it to the party area, reveals our eyewitness. Ranbir curiously, as we had earlier reported, left the stage when the best actress award was slated to be announced leaving Karan Johar to host the final part of the show. One Deepika fan felt that Ranbir should have had the decency or chivalry to acknowledge Deepika's success and not bow down to absent girlfriend Katrina's 'orders' to ignore Deepika completely. After all, they had been a couple, she said emphatically, and he should have shown her some courtesy. Another fan of Deepika, who was present, added, "We wonder where Deepika's so-called friends disappeared when she shone like the brightest star at Filmfare. For an actress who delivered three consecutive 100 crores hits last year and was unofficially anointed the superstar of 2013, we thought she deserved much better attention. Maybe the 'men' in a male dominated Bollywood were really jealous of her." People who know her swear by her modest and humble nature. A make-up artiste who has worked with many stars told us once how Deepika is the only A-list actress who will accede to all requests of her fans without the slightest hesitation. 'She has absolutely no airs about her being a superstar,' said the make-up artiste. Given her impeccable credentials and success, we thought Deepika deserved a tad more warmth from the cold Bollywood. But as they say, success begets many 'friends' and failure none! We really hope that's not the case here.
