MUMBAI :Divya Dutta is one of the most well known faces in the Indian film industry. She has been part of many path breaking films like Train To Pakistan, Special 26, Badlapur, Stanley Ka Dabba, among others. The actress made her debut nearly 30 years ago.
Divya is a National Award winner as well as has won 4 Filmfare awards. She has acted in films of various languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam and English.
Speaking of her days of struggle in the industry, Divya said, “When I started making my path, things were very different. Now that OTT has arrived, that path must be accessible to all. But OTT was well before my time. So I had to fight for it a lot. For this, you needn’t be just the heroine or the hero’s love interest.”
Divya further revealed an interesting anecdote from her film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag where she essayed the role of Farhan Akhtar’s sister in the film. She said, “I was tagged as an unconventional heroine when I did Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. There, I wasn’t romancing the hero, but it was an adorable role. I was initially hesitant to do the movie because I had a strong crush on Farhan Akhtar. When director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra narrated the role to me, I said, ‘no, I won’t play Farhan’s sister’. He reminded me that I am an actor,” she said, blushing, adding that she’s now blushing thinking how stupid of her to have said that to the director.”
She further added, “I further asked Mehra, ‘how could I play his sister if I don’t feel that emotion towards him?’ But he said firmly that if someone was doing the role, it would be me. He had such faith in me. He always gave me something new to me. I am thankful to him.”
