MUMBAI : 2022 has not been a great year for Bollywood. Many films failed to make a mark at the box office and most of them were remakes. Bachchhan Paandey, Jersey, Nikamma, HIT: The First Case, Laal Singh Chaddha, Dobaaraa, Vikram Vedha, and Mili, all these films were remakes, and they didn’t do well at the ticket window. But, finally, Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam 2 has broken the jinx of flop remakes.
Drishyam 2, which is a remake of a Malayalam movie of the same name, has done exceptionally well at the box office. The movie took a bumper opening of Rs. 15.38 crore, and on Saturday and Sunday, it showed amazing growth. On Saturday, the film collected Rs. 21.59 crore, and on Sunday the collection was Rs. 27.17 crores, taking the first weekend total to Rs. 64.14 crores.
Now, looking at the first-weekend collection, we can surely expect the film to do well on weekdays as well. If Drishyam 2 continues to stay stable at the box office on weekdays, it will easily enter the Rs. 100 crore club by the end of its first week.
Ajay Devgn has bounced back with a bang. Before Drishyam 2, he was seen in Thank God and Runway 34, and both films failed to make a mark at the box office. So Drishyam 2 has been a lifesaver for Ajay too!
Meanwhile, Tabu has become one of the most successful actresses of 2022 with two back-to-back hits, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Drishyam 2. While in Drishyam 2 she has a small but powerful role, we cannot ignore that she has the star power to pull the audiences to the theatres.
