The movement for justice by way of righteous measures that had led to the freedom of our country is set to be depicted in today’s time in Prakash Jha’s upcoming movie Satyagraha.
The project is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi (not Anna Hazare), as Jha declared at the trailer’s launch yesterday. “Unlike reported, this movie has no connection with Hazare, it is the fight of a man for truth. Also, the portrayal of the father-son relationship plays a strong part in the movie,” Jha declared.
The film co-produced by Prakash Jha and Disney UTV has Amitabh Bachchan play the man who is out there to fight a war for truth. Starring along with him is Ajay Devgn who plays a current scenario entrepreneur out there to work for his growth in all circumstances.
The film shows how the two come together and Ajay gets his life changed and supports the man. Supporting the two will be Manoj Bajpai who plays the shrewd politician, Kareena Kapoor Khan, who plays an investigative journalist, Arjun Rampal, a good opposition politician and Amrita Rao as Amitabh’s daughter-in-law.
The launch of the trailer was done on a global scale with Ajay and Kareena joining their team through a video interaction from London, UK.
The film has an edge with such a strong star cast, and as Jha averred, “I am fortunate that such big names agree to work with me.” Talking about the association of UTV with Prakash, Disney UTV CEO and producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor said, “It is a pleasure to work with him because he knows exactly what he wants and how.”
Dressed as his character, Bachchan briefed the media about his role thus, “Personally, I can relate to the role as I too believe that truth prevails ever. After I discussed the character with the creatives and the producers, Dwarka Anand was born. Prakash knows what he wants from his actors and it is a pleasure to work with him.”
Ajay Devgn who has earlier worked with Jha observed, “The fight for justice has been going on for long and it will go on happening in the coming years too. The society needs their right and it will have to fight for it.”
Echoing his thoughts, the talented Manoj Bajpai said, “Our country people have grown up reading the teachings of Gandhi and they know well how to use their own method of standing against all wrongs.”
Talking about her character Yasmin, Kareena said, “I am quite confident that this movie will influence the country. Playing a workaholic journalist was a great experience and now I know the pressure media professional have on them.”
The film will have Amrita in a completely different avatar. “Prakashji helped me stretch my abilities to bring out this role. I can say that this is one of my most challenging roles so far,” she concluded.
The movie is slated to release on 23 August (2013).
