MUMBAI : For the "Deewangi Deewangi" music video from "Om Shanti Om," Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan achieved the seemingly unthinkable: they brought together practically all of Bollywood's biggest stars.
Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Karisma Kapoor, Rekha, Dharmendra, and many more actors showcased their amazing range of talent in the song. Farah Khan has revealed behind-the-scenes stories from the filming, including the fact that Govinda was nearly 24 hours late for his part.
In a video interview posted on IFTDA Official's YouTube page, Farah Khan detailed a few of the challenges she encountered during filming the song. She revealed, “Govinda came 24 hours late.” Reflecting on that day, she shared, “We were all waiting; it was his turn, and his shot was ready. So I called him and said, ‘Chichi, where are you?’ He replied, ‘I am shooting in Dharavi.’ I informed him, ‘But we are in Film City.’ Despite this, he eventually appeared the next day.”
During an earlier appearance on Zee Comedy Show, Farah Khan disclosed that despite her 30-year career as a choreographer, she has never choreographed Govinda, even though they’ve known each other since childhood. She recalled that during the shoot of the ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ song from ‘Om Shanti Om, she asked Govinda to teach his steps to Shah Rukh Khan.
Farah explained, “Even when he came to shoot for the song, I didn’t have the courage to choreograph him. So, I asked Govinda to choreograph Shah Rukh Khan for his portion, and we decided to keep those steps. They performed the ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ routine in the end, and it came out brilliantly.”
Last year, Catherine Zeta-Jones had expressed that Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Om Shanti Om’ is one of her favourite films along with ‘The Lunch Box’. The Hollywood star was attending the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) with her actor husband Michael Douglas told the media that she showed her son ‘Om Shanti Om’ which is one of her favourite movies.
“And when his (sons) kid friends came over, he is like, ‘You want to see a movie from India, it’s my mom’s favorite movie’. We love it and we watched it many times.”
Red Chillies Entertainment, led by Gauri Khan, produced this film in 2007, which was written and directed by Farah Khan. In addition to Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, and Kirron Kher in supporting parts, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone played key roles. This movie turned out to be a box office hit.
According to sources, the film made Rs 150 crore worldwide on a production budget of Rs 40 crore. The movie was nominated thirteen times at the 53rd Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director (Farah), Best Actor (Shah Rukh), Best Actress (Padukone), and Best Supporting Actor (Talpade). It won two prizes, including Best Special Effects and Best Female Debut (Padukone).
