MUMBAI: Director Faruk Kabir, known for his intense storytelling and strong character work, is set to present his upcoming series Salakaar — a gripping tale featuring a host of layered, dynamic roles. One such standout character will be played by Mouni Roy, and Kabir’s decision to cast her came from a place of both instinct and insight.
Opening up about his choice, Kabir said:
“Beyond her sexy perceived image, Mouni is a deeply spiritual and kind woman. She is one of the most well-behaved actors I’ve worked with, and her range as an actor is immense, provided she is offered more meaningful parts in good scripts.”
Interestingly, Mouni wasn’t initially cast in the role she now plays. Kabir revealed:
“I earlier offered Mouni another part in the series as it’s dense with very interesting characters, but then whilst reading with her, I felt she is more suited to the more layered character like the one she now plays. Also, this role is not about needing Mouni’s glamorous side, but more her venerable and earnest side of her personality.”
In an industry where actors are often slotted into familiar roles, Faruk Kabir’s casting of Mouni Roy stands out as a conscious choice to break that mold. With Salakaar, audiences will get to see a new dimension of the actress — one that leans into emotional depth rather than surface appeal.
As the show builds anticipation, one thing is clear: this collaboration between Faruk Kabir and Mouni Roy promises something fresh, intense, and powerfully human.
