Gumraah

MUMBAI: Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur starrer Gumraah has been the talk of the town ever since the movie was in the making and ever since the trailer was out it promised that it is going to be one of a kind of thriller. The movie which is the remake of the popular South movie Thadam is directed by Vardhan Ketkar.

Today finally the movie has hit the big screen and here is the complete review of the movie.

The premise of the movie begins with a murder but there are two suspects and both are look-alike of each other. Now what is the agenda behind this killing and who has committed the murder, is the main premise of the film.

The screenplay of the movie is strictly average and the writing is very much decent also the direction given by Vardhan Ketkar is strictly average. This movie falls completely flat for the people who have seen the original version.

Talking about the performances, Aditya Roy Kapur delivers yet another never seen before character. No doubt it was a treat to watch the actor in both his characters, and the actor has managed to pull the attention with his performance and his looks. On the other hand Mrunal Thakur as the investigating officer looks completely different but her character was not powerful enough, Ronit Roy was decent on his part, and Deepa Kalra will make you laugh in a few scenes.

Talking about the positive point of the movie it has to be the premise and the plot which is very much similar to the original version, also the performance of Aditya Roy Kapur is a treat to watch and you get to see the different side of the actor in this movie. The second half has a few twists and turns which will keep you on the edge of your seats. The chemistry between Aditya Roy Kapur and Vedika Pinto brings some freshness on screen and they look beautiful on screen.

Having said all these positive points the movie has a lot of negative points too. Inspite of being a remake of the South movie, a different treatment should have been given to it. The approach of the movie is the same and there are major scenes that are replica of the original version. The screenplay of the movie dips a lot in between and the movie is the pure victim of poor writing and bad screenplay. The second half has a lot of loopholes in terms of the events which are happening in the movie as they look a little forceful and clustered. Also at many points the movie becomes very slow and few incidents in the movie are very much predictable, which gives no surprise to the audience. We can easily say that actress Vedika Pinto is wasted in the movie she should have been given more screen space, also the songs of the movie are beautiful, but they look a little forceful and deviates the attention of the audience.

Overall Gumrah is the perfect example of poor writing with a bad screenplay which makes the audience Gumraah because it will take you nowhere. It is the perfect recipe which makes it a strictly average movie.

Team Tellychakkar goes with 2/5 for Gumraah.
