Hansal Mehta has no issues with Ram-leela – Rajkummar Rao

While Shahid won accolades and rave reviews for its riveting storytelling and heart-tugging performances, the movie finds itself in the middle of a censor certificate controversy today. Director Hansal Mehta filed an RTI last month, seeking information about the grounds on which Ram-leela was given a U/A certificate and Shahid an ‘A’. While it may not have gone down well with the makers of Ram-leela, Hansal himself clarified later that his fight’s not against Ram-leela. Now Shahid star Rajkummar Rao too has come out in strong support of his director. Defending Hansal’s decision of filing an RTI, Rajkummar said, “Hansal is not upset with Ram-leela. He is upset because Shahid has been given an A certificate and that is what he was interested in finding out. There a lot of films that have scenes which are bold in nature but they are certified U/A. So why was Shahid singled out and given an ‘A’ certification? That is what Hansal Sir intends to find out and hence he has filed an RTI. He has absolutely no issues with any other movie.” It remains to be seen if the answer that Hansal will finally get from the RTI office, will pacify the director or not.
