I am not a part of Bollywood - Rajat Kapoor

Rajat Kapoor
Actor, director, writer and now producer, Rajat Kapoor is a man of many talents. What's heart breaking to see however is the struggle that Rajat had to go through to get finances for his next project Ankhon Dekhi. Admitting that Bollywood doesn't offer much scope for his type of niche scripts, Rajat says, "Bollywood is a different industry altogether. I am not all connected to Bollywood. I am happy being on the margins. I may have acted in a few films but Bollywood is a different world. It doesn't offer any scope for my kind of scripts. Bollywood is all about big stars, big promotions and big sets. My film doesn't have all these." There was a time when Rajat had thought about roping in Amitabh Bachchan to play the lead role. Explaining the reason behind the same, Rajat says, "At one point when I was finding it difficult to raise finances, Mr. Bachchan's name did cross my mind and I thought that if Mr. Bachchan happens to be in my film then the studios may be interested. But then thankfully, I found a financier." Talking about his movie Ankhon Dekhi, Rajat says, "It's the journey of a man who one day decides that he will believe only in those things that he experiences. He will believe only what he sees with his own eyes and what he hears with his own ears. And that becomes an obsession and people around him start calling him mad. And then his family members get affected by his behaviour." Squashing rumours of him having invited Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal to attend a special screening, Rajat clarifies, "I don't know from where these reports came out. All I said was my protagonist could be a representative of the common man and somehow it got blown to such an extent that reports of me having invited Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal to do the roles started doing the rounds. The message disseminated through my movie is more philosophical than political." The actor-director is not seen much in mainstream Bollywood cinema these days. Explaining the reason behind his disappearance, Rajat says, "I have been offered five minute roles in many movies but I am not interested in doing those anymore. I don't want to hang around big sets doing nothing. I will do a film as an actor only if the role offered excites me creatively. Or else am happy not acting." Cheers to that, we say.
