True to his reel life roles, Chunkey Pandey, in real life too, comes across as a witty and jolly good fellow. And the first thing you notice these days about Chunkey other than his broad smile is his noodle styled hair falling over his forehead. Chunkey follows our gaze and grins, “It’s real. You can touch and see it.” Now we don’t know of many film stars who will allow anyone except their hairstylist to touch their tresses. As an actor, Chunkey Pandey has been around in the industry for a long time. In fact, for a very long time. For someone who debuted way back in 1987, Chunkey has seen life in Bollywood from close quarters. After starring as a lead actor in a few films in his heydays, Chunkey took off to Bangladesh where he made big name and fame for himself. Chunkey calls that period a good phase of his career but is quick to add that he has no intention of going back to Bangladesh again. "May be I will try going Nepal, Sri Lanka or even Pakistan," quips Chunkey. Chunkey is no longer seen in lead roles these days. But that doesn't bother him much. " I consider myself a specialist," says Chunkey. But is he creatively satisfied with the kind of roles he is offered? " I am offered shitty films everyday but I choose not to do them. Even if I have only four scenes in the movie, I will be happy if audience remembers the movie for those four scenes," reasons Chunkey. For now, Chunkey is content excelling at comic roles, something which he feels comes naturally to him. "I am a happy person by nature and comedy comes naturally to me though I will credit Sajid Khan for discovering my comic timing through Housefull," says Chunkey and reveals how Sajid himself had planned to play the role of the endearing character 'Aakhri Pasta'. " Sajid finally decided against playing Aakhri Pasta because he felt he wouldn't be able to act and direct simultaneously." For someone who is considered close to the king of Bollywood -SRK-, Chunkey should have been featured in most of SRK's movies. But that's not the case. Quiz Chunkey about it and the actor wistfully says, "May be there has never been an opportunity." As the year draws to an end, Chunkey has a big-budget movie, Bullett Raja, lined up for release. Talking about his role in the movie, Chunkey says, "I play a character called Lallan Tiwari. It’s neither black nor white. It is unpredictable. He first comes off as a very nice person and then becomes evil." Also in-line to release next year is a sex-comedy called Disco Valley where Chunkey plays an evil DJ. So can we expect an encore of Grand Masti. " No no. It’s not anything like Grand Masti," says Chunkey with a wink before signing off.
