Swirling reports of Hrithik Roshan having replaced Salman Khan as the co-owner of FC Pune City made big news yesterday. According to news reports, Hrithik was roped in as the co-owner in place of Salman Khan as the latter couldn’t devote enough time for his franchise. In a bid to clarify things, Salman himself issued a statement via Twitter negating that he was ever the owner of FC Pune.
Wrote Salman, “I do not own any ISL team. My friends Dheeraj & Kapil Wadhawan had asked me to be their partner in FC Pune City. But due to my endorsement contracts with Suzuki and Thums Up which conflict with the League sponsors, I can't associate with FCPuneCity.”
Salman however did wish ISL all the best and also emphasized on the need to support the league for the betterment and growth of football in our country.
“I wish ISL all success. By creating ISL, IMG-Reliance and Star have put in place an important building block to put Indian football on the global football map.”
Salman also specifically praised entrepreneur Nita Ambani for her futuristic vision. “I endorse Nita Ambani's vision in the football grassroots program and will work wholeheartedly in supporting it. The football grassroots program will shape the next generation of Indian footballers.”
ISL will kick off this Sunday from Kolkata and actors Varun Dhawan and Priyanka Chopra are slated to perform at the inaugural ceremony at the Salt Lake stadium.
