"I was Close to Comitting Suicide" reveals Manoj Bajpayee

In an Interview recently, Manoj Bajpayee opens up about his struggling days as an actor and having suicidal thoughts when he got rejected for National School of Drama thrice.

MUMBAI: People are slowly opening up on depression and their personal mental health issues in the wake of Sushant Singh Rajput committing suicide. One such famous actor was Manoj Bajpayee. The Family Man actor revealed that he faced depression and suicidal thoughts when he was rejected three times from the National School of Drama. In an interview with Humans of Bombay, the star shared his life journey of becoming the most sought after actors in Bollywood while he grew up knowing he was a boy who didn't have an 'ideal hero face'.

During the interaction with them, he spoke about his days of following his passion and doing theatre and simultaneously facing rejection thrice from National School of Drama which made him have suicidal thoughts but then he was grateful for having his friends beisde him to bring him out of the phase.  “I was close to committing suicide, so my friends would sleep next to me and not leave me alone. They kept me going until I was accepted. That year, I was at a chai shop when Tigmanshu came looking for me on his khatara scooter. Shekhar Kapur wanted to cast me in Bandit Queen! So I felt I was ready & moved to Mumbai.”

During the interview, he also disclosed his struggling days where he felt that even a vada pav was expensive and paying rent in a chawl was difficult for him. He spoke about his big break in Satya and how he moved forward after that where all his hard work paid him off. He concluded by saying "That’s when the awards rolled in. I bought my first house & knew…I was here to stay. 67 films later, here I am. That’s the thing about dreams–when it comes to turning them into reality, the hardships don’t matter. What matters is the belief of that 9-year-old Bihari boy & nothing else”.
