The trailer launch of Kamasutra 3D at a suburban theater was an eventful affair. For starters, lead actress and sex siren Sherlyn Chopra was conspicuous by her absence and director Rupesh Paul made no bones about the fact she chose not to come despite him texting her multiple times. “I come from the South Indian School of film making where we don’t believe in begging actresses to come for an event. I informed her but maybe she had some other important matters to attend,”said Rupesh.
What however left the audience surprised was the trailer itself. If one was expecting sleaze, there was none on display. The makers have been paid special attention in making sure that the love-making sequences are aesthetically canned. The trailer which looks enticing offers a slight peek-a-boo into the debauchery that one can expect from the film.
But what caught our roving eye though was a pool sequence where Milind Gunaji can be seen cavorting with at least three semi-naked women. When the floor opened for the press later on, we couldn’t resist asking Milind how difficult it was to perform (pun unintended) in that particular scene. “Oh, it was very difficult. Difficult because I had to control myself. And there were not three but thirty women surrounding me in that scene,” said Milind eliciting peals of laughter from the audience.
Elaborating on how as an actor he doesn’t have any inhibitions in performing a bold sequence, Milind said, “I am an actor and it’s my duty to act out any role that is given to me with perfection. I don’t differentiate between a bold role or any other. Every role requires the same amount of preparation and focus for it to come good on screen. And as an actor it would not be right for me to step back when a role, however challenging in terms of boldness is given to me.”
The makers of Kamasutra 3D are looking to release the movie in India on the 23 May this year. The movie apart from the usual man-woman love making sequences also boasts of a 45-minute lesbian encounter between Sherlyn Chopra and actress Kristina Saikia which director Rupesh Paul says is the best lesbian scene ever shot in Indian cinema.
Let’s wait and watch how much of actual footage our revered Censor Board allows for general public viewing.
