MUMBAI: It is not easy to make a name in Bollywood. But Aparshakti Khurana strived hard to make a space. Starting his career with a blockbuster film like Dangal, the actor proved that he is here to stay. In the next few years, he did a couple of successful films including Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Stree, Luka Chuppi, and Pati Patni Aur Woh.
However, he doesn't wish to take credit alone for the success of those films as Aparshakti feels there a lot of combinations that come together to make a project work. In an interaction with Times Now Digital, Aparshakti traced his journey from being a radio jockey to bagging his first lead film, Helmet, in Bollywood.
Here are excerpts.
People have accepted me on all platforms
"You know, I am really enjoying my journey. Sometimes what happens is, you wish to do this thing, you wish to do that thing but it is not necessary that you are accepted in everything that you do. God has really been kind to me that people have accepted me on all the platforms. And now moving on to another platform, which is my first lead film, I am looking forward to that as well."
From RJing to hosting, it was quite a natural transition
"The thing is radio and anchoring go hand-in-hand. It is all about talking on the mic and taking care of the situation and interacting in the best possible way. So ya, it really helped me. From RJing to hosting, it was quite a natural transition. And I am very happy that I made that transition because it really helped me, later on, to face the camera while acting. And to date, I love the camera, stage, and mic."
I was very skeptical when I thought of becoming an actor
"When I thought of becoming an actor, I was very skeptical. Also because, today when I stand in front of the camera, I cannot believe that I have become an actor. It is just so surreal. I have so many people around me who are into theatre, radio and other performing arts, there are also people more talented than me. So, mujhe kahi baar believe nahi hota that it is happening with me. God has been very kind. When I thought of becoming an actor, I was a little confused that am I the right fit or not. But thankfully, things are happening in a better way."
I do not want to take credit for the success of my films
"I do not want to take credit for the fact that Dangal, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Stree, Luka Chuppi, Pati Patni Aur Woh worked. I would not want to take credit for that. All I want to say is that the writers were bang on and the makers of the films were completely sure of what they were doing and they had a good cast in place. And it had a good combination. Everybody liked the honesty we all worked with. I cannot take credit for the fact that I made these films successful. I think a lot of combinations have to come together to make it happen."
