I will be happy even if Bullett Raja doesn’t make 100 crores - Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan
Now considering that his close buddy and co-star from Kal Ho Naa Ho, Shah Rukh Khan is the torchbearer of the now infamous 100 crore club, we thought Saif Ali Khan too would be eager to break into the elite group. But our Chhote Nawab doesn’t seem to be too keen on joining it. In fact, to start with Saif doesn’t really think of it as a club. Nor does he believe that every movie should make 100 crores at the box-office. “I don’t know if you can call it a club. Certain films are made to run and make 100 crores at the box-office. Like Race 2 was made to run at the box-office. We expect it to make 100 crores because it has everything from song and dance to comedy and action. If it doesn’t make that much money you feel something has gone wrong. But that doesn’t mean you only make such films. As an actor, you should be open to doing all kinds of cinema. Ours is a big industry which is growing day by day. We should not limit ourselves to making one kind of film,” said Saif. With the moolah that a film makes at the box-office these days becoming the yardstick for measuring an actor’s success, we asked Saif if critical acclaim still holds good for him as an actor. “I think both commercial and critical acclaim are equally important. Historically, if you look at actors, the ones that have credibility and longevity are the ones who have excelled at both. Take a look at my mother, Sharmila Tagore. She was a box-office star but she also did a lot of cinema with Gulzar Saab and Basu Bhattacharya. It’s necessary to do all these films because they add dimension to your repertoire.” When asked about his expectations from Bullett Raja, Saif said, “I don’t know if Bullett Raja is a movie that will make 100 crores. May be it will not. And I think we will be very happy if it does much less than that.” Now, that’s an honest admission, Saif. Let’s wait and watch how much fire Bullett Raja ends up creating at the box-office. Going by its tagline – Aayenge Toh Garmi Badayenge – we feel it should.
