MUMBAI: S. Shankar is the writer and director of the Tamil action movie Indian 2, which he co-wrote with B. Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu, and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar. Red Giant Pictures and Lyca Productions collaborated on the film's production. The film is a sequel to Indian (1996). The film stars Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, S. J. Suryah, Bobby Simha, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani, and Nedumudi Venu. The film is all set to release on July 12, 2024 in cinemas.
With just ten days remaining until the movie opens in theaters, the production crew is working nonstop on its promotions. Playing a significant part in Indian 2, actor Siddharth teamed up with S. Shankar following Boys (2003). The actor revealed in the interview that his character is exactly like his true self. The actor revealed about sharing a screen with Kamal Haasan whom he considers his favourite actor and teacher and revealed that he pushes the artists to perform the sequence scenes better. Recalling the experience, Siddharth said, "I went in expecting to meet someone who would teach me a lot." I found that he continues to be a student and is picking up a lot of knowledge. Kamal sir has an intense curiosity. Every day, the individual I view as a "university" continues to discover and gain new knowledge. I will always be drawn to this part of him.

On July 12, Indian 2 is slated to open in theaters throughout the globe in both regular and IMAX formats. The movie was broken into two parts since the last segment lasted more than six hours. The release of Indian 3, the second part, is scheduled for 2025. The Indian 3 film, starring Kajal Agarwal, has completed filming.
