MUMBAI: The 1997 film Hero No. 1 directed by David Dhawan and starring Govinda was one of the iconic comedy movies of that generation. Now, 25 years post the film’s release, filmmaker Jagan Shakti is coming out with his new film which is also titled Hero No. 1. It will star Tiger Shroff, and will be produced by Vashu and Jackky Bhagnani. According to sources, it will have a big budget and will mostly go on floors next year.
“Tiger Shroff, Jackky Bhagnani and Jagan Shakti are looking to create a one of its kind tentpole action thrillers, with the aim to bring heroism back in a big way. And what better title than Hero No. 1 to celebrate cinema the way it’s meant to be,” revealed a source close to the team, further saying that Jagan has been committed to making a film for Pooja Entertainment, and the script of Hero No. 1 is one of his most ambitious dreams. “The vision is big, and the team plans to shoot the film internationally in Europe with an international action crew. The idea is to take it on floors in 2023, however, exact timelines are being worked upon.”.
The pre-production for the film is already underway, and the entire production unit is energetic and ready to kickstart the work on this ambitious project. It’s a mission-based film, with many interesting characters, including a baddie. Details about the other cast members, including the leading lady and the antagonist, will be finalised in a month’s time.
The Jagan Shakti directed Hero No. 1 has nothing to do with the David Dhawan comedy; the team is merely using the same title as they feel it’s apt for the story in today’s context. One fun fact is that back in the 80s, Tiger’s father, Jackie Shroff featured in a film called Hero. Now, we will get to see Tiger as Hero No. 1.
