Director A.R Murugadoss has done it again. The pocket sized dynamite from Tamil Nadu who started the 100 crore club in Bollywood with Ghajini has once again proved his Midas touch. Holiday stormed into the 100 crore club today; thereby becoming the third highest grosser of 2014, behind Jai Ho and 2 States which occupy the top two positions respectively. The movie which opened worldwide with screenings held in 50 other countries is reportedly doing well in the overseas market as well.
Now running in its third week, Holiday has seen consistent collections despite having to contend with other releases. Of course, helping its cause were the dismal opening of last week’s releases Fugly and Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai, both of which sank without much trace giving Holiday an uninterrupted run.
While A.R. Murgadoss has proved his magic touch at the BO, Holiday’s success has come as a breather for Akshay Kumar who was looking to consolidate his commercial viability especially after the serious drubbing that his last two films took at the box-office.
With Humshakals releasing today, it remains to be seen if it will pose a stiff competition to Holiday and halt its march toward the top of the league. For the moment, it’s celebratory time for Vipul Shah & Co. And as for Murugadoss, we are sure he must be busy planning his next, already.
