To know that it is your voice that India’s most distinguished actor, Amitabh Bachchan listens to every morning is indeed a matter of great pride. And the singer who holds this unique distinction of mesmerising Amitabh every morning is none other than India’s bhajan king, Anup Jalota.
Amitabh fondly remembered the first time he heard Anup Jalota’s voice. “A long time back, I was in Uttar Pradesh sitting under the open sky with my friends when we heard a stunning voice that surprised us with its melody. That voice slowly grew bigger and bigger and is today known as the voice of Anup Jalota. Even today after waking up its Anup Jalota’s Ramcharitmanas that everyone in our house listens to,” Amitabh said.
The legendary actor shared this interesting anecdote at the launch of HMV Saregama’s new music album titled Destiny. Amitabh who was the chief guest later released the album later in the evening and was joined on the dais by some of India’s best known ghazal singers like Pankaj Udhas, Talat Aziz, Anup Jalota and emerging talent Sumeet Tappo all of whom have lend their voices to songs in Destiny. Sumeet also later sang the iconic song ‘Neela Aasman’ from Silsila that Amitabh himself had sung in the film.
Destiny contains a total of nine songs all of which have been penned by (Late) Sri Ram Prakash Goel while the songs have been composed by Anup Jalota. The album is unique in itself for never before have India’s finest ghazal singers come together on a single platform to record songs for a music album. A real treat for music lovers, we say.
