MUMBAI: Veteran Bollywood actress Kamini Kaushal, one of the most respected names from the golden era of Hindi cinema, has passed away at the age of 98. A source confirmed the news and shared that her family prefers to stay private during this difficult time.
Confirming her passing, a source told journalist Vickey Lalwani that Kamini Kaushal’s family prefers to stay low-profile and has requested privacy during this time.
Kamini Kaushal’s journey in films began with Neecha Nagar (1946), a movie that won the top prize at the very first Cannes Film Festival — the only Indian film to ever win the Palme d’Or. She also received an award at the Montreal Film Festival for the film, marking a strong start to her career.
Over the years, she worked in many memorable movies like Ziddi (1948), Shair (1949), and Aag (1948), proving she could handle romance, drama, and intense roles with equal ease. Her performances in films like Night Club (1958), Poonam (1952), Shabnam, and Aarzoo showed her wide range and her skill in bringing depth to every character.
Even in her later years, she stayed connected to the industry and appeared in Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), showing that her charm and dedication remained unchanged.
Kamini Kaushal’s passing marks the end of an era, but her legacy will continue to inspire generations of actors and cinephiles. Her grace, talent, and contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered, keeping her alive in the hearts of millions.
