Kamal Haasan and Singeetam Srinivasa Rao honored at Apoorva Singeetam Film Festival for their iconic contributions to Indian Cinema

MUMBAI: Actor Kamal Haasan’s rich filmography is one that is studied and revered by film aficionados across the world. The actor has given unforgettable performances throughout his illustrious career making him one of India’s most beloved and versatile actors ever. A key collaborator during his film journey was director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, who is widely considered to be one of India’s most versatile and innovative filmmakers. He has directed close to sixty films in multiple languages and has won 2 national awards. He was also felicitated with the Lifetime achievement award in 2011 by the Film federation of India.

To honour some of their most iconic films, Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) had organised a special film festival ‘Apoorva Singeetam- A Kamal Haasan’s  x Singeetam Retrospective Film festival’ to honour the unmissable mark the actor-director duo’s film have left on Tamil and Indian Cinema. 

One of the films screened at the festival was ‘Raja Paarvai’, a 1981 release that marked Kamal Haasan’s 100th film as an actor and his maiden film as a producer.

The film, which was the first film screened at the Apoorva Singeetam film festival was followed by a panel discussion hosted by Suhasini Mani Ratnam which had director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, Kamal Haasan, Director Mani Ratnam, Lyricist Vairamuthu and cinematographer Barun Mukherjee on the panel. 

Raja Paarvai was followed by Pesum Padam, a dialogue-less film which is considered one of India’s finest cinematic works. The screening was followed by a panel discussion which had panelists like director Nag Ashwin, actress Amala Akkineni along with Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and Kamal Haasan.

Day Three of the festival saw the screening of Aboorva Sagotharargal which was followed by a panel discussion with music director AR Rahman and cinematographer PC Sreeram as panelists along with Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and Kamal Haasan.

The festival concluded with the screening of Mumbai Xpress and the panel was hosted by Anu Haasan. The panelists were music director Illaiyaraja, actor Nasser and actor Pasupathy along with Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and Kamal Haasan.

Over the four days, the panellists included directors Mani Ratnam and Nag Ashwin, cinematographers PC Sreeram and Barun Mukherjee, music directors Ilayaraaja and AR Rahman, lyricist Vairamuthu and actors Amala Akkineni, Nasser and Pasupathy. The panel discussions were moderated by Suhasini Mani Ratnam and Anu Haasan.

In addition to the above panellists, the following celebrities were also a part of the 4 day event- Directors Lokesh Kanagaraj, K.S.Ravikumar, Mahesh Narayanan and Kiruthiga Udayanidhi, Actors

Sivakarthikeyan, Siddharth, Santhana Bharathi, Y.G.Mahendra, Delhi Ganesh, M.S.Bhaskar, Kovai

Sarala and Nizhalgal Ravi, Actor- Musician Shruti Haasan, Actor- Director Sasi Kumar, Actor- Producer Subbu Panchu, Cinematographers Rajiv Menon and Ravi K. Chandran, Stunt Choreographers Anbariv and Composer Devi Sri Prasad among others.

RKFI will now be releasing the highlights of this festival in the form of a series on its social media handles including its official YouTube channel- www.youtube.com/@rkfi from 9th December 2024 onwards.
