It's a season of ex-lovers reuniting on screen. While Shamitabh will see Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha in the same movie after more than three decades (though not in the same frame), director Abhishek Choubey has pulled off a casting coup himself by getting former sweethearts, Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor to team up for Udta Punjab.
While an official word on the same is awaited from the concerned authorities, Shahid Kapoor yesterday confirmed to us that Kareena Kapoor is indeed being considered for the movie.
"What I am aware of Udta Punjab is that Abhishek Choubey is directing it. I am acting in it along with Alia Bhatt. I am also aware that the makers are in talks with Kareena Kapoor for a role in the movie. There is also another principal character in the movie for which casting is yet to be done," Shahid told us at Star Guild awards yesterday night.
Udta Punjab has been courting controversy lately over the unceremonious exit of Ayushmann Khurrana. Sources in the know suggest that Ayushmann who was finalised to play the 'principal character' was booted out after Kareena expressed her reservations at acting alongside a lesser known Ayushmann who is not a A-lister. Unconfirmed sources also reported that Kareena was also apparently concerned at Ayushmann's baby face looks.
Ayushmann, on his part, however gave the perfect ruse for not doing the film. "I didn't have dates to allocate Udta Punjab." Really busy are you, Ayushmann!
With Kareena almost confirmed to play a lead role in Udta Punjab, this film will be most eagerly awaited by all Shahid-Kareena fans.
