Doing action and kissing sequences on screen is one and the same thing. This is what Ranbir Kapoor feels when we asked if he felt awkward doing intimate scenes with ex-girlfriend and starlet Deepika Padukone while shooting for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which hit screens today (31 May 2013).
“I take enacting a kissing scene as any other scene including action. Film shooting involves lots of other technical aspects i.e. lighting, sound etc. There are over 100 people on the set when any given scene is canned. So there is no question of really being intimate. We are actors and it is our job to appear intimate.”
“If two actors romance on screen it does not mean that they are involved in real life too. What you see on screen is an altogether different ball game than what is happening on the sets during shooting. The final scene looks much more beautiful, because we add background music et al to it,” Ranbir informs.
“Honestly, I don’t have any problems doing films with Deepika for there is a great comfort level between the two of us. And when Ayan Mukerji (director), who is a good friend came up with this story idea, both of us green lighted the project separately. Had he felt that we are awkward he would have not cast us together in the first place?” he confesses.
Ranbir has a few words of wisdom for the fourth estate. “I just feel that the media should not really bother about my personal life. I’d rather be talked about for my work and not with who I went out for dinner last night? Do I ask you guys what do you do with your girlfriend or wife.”
