MUMBAI : Sidharth Malhotra's eagerly awaited action film Mitti has been placed on indefinite hold. There were rumors in June of this year that Malhotra was working on a brutal action movie with director Balwinder Singh Janjua and producer Murad Khetani. Sreeleela, a South Indian actress, was also chosen for the movie. But according to recent reports, Malhotra left the movie unexpectedly, only a few weeks before filming was supposed to start.
The reasons for his leaving are still unknown, however a story in Peeping Moon claims that he left because of worries about the script as well as artistic disputes with the director. Some reports assert that Malhotra's decision may have been inspired by a desire for more creative control on site, while others contend he was just unimpressed with the project's trajectory. It's also possible that the actor's recent box office setbacks were a factor, which could have made it more challenging to get financing for the movie.
Previously, director Balwinder Singh Janjua had told a news portal that Mitti is a action drama set in Uttarakhand and the story revolves around guilt, living with the baggage of guilt. The film he said would explore saving your home and your land, your heritage and family as well as relationships.
There are several rumors that Malhotra is involved in a romantic comedy that director Tushar Jalota of Dasvi films is directing and Dinesh Vijan is producing. Budgetary issues are said to have caused the delay in this project, which was originally scheduled to start filming in late 2023. Now that Malhotra might be involved, the movie seems to be back on track, with shooting perhaps starting in the upcoming months.

The yet-to-be-titled movie is anticipated to be a fun and financially successful endeavor, which stands in sharp contrast to the action drama Malhotra left behind. Although the female lead's casting is still pending, rumors have it that Janhvi Kapoor is in the running for the part.
