MUMBAI: Indian singer fame Sonu Nigam is now used to controversies! The singer is popular for his honest and straightforward opinions about things around him. He is not afraid of inviting negative comments on the same but takes it sportingly. Sonu is one of the most loved singers in the country and he has been a part of reality shows as well. His voice is a true melody and one can listen to his songs on repeat mode.
In his whole professional life, he has been questioned many times for his take on different things, but with Sonu Nigam what you see is what you get. He is known to be super blunt with his thought process and says it all directly. Many people find it haughty and rude. However, he has received support from his audience agree with his points.
While he comments on the Indian Idol show
Sonu, who has been on the judges' panel of shows like Sa Re Ga Ma and Indian Idol and knows all the insights of the particular show, spoke about the controversy which is related to the Indian reality shows. He said, "As a judge, we are here to teach something to the contestants. We should give honest feedback to the participants. Always praising them won’t do any good." Previously Kishore Kumar's son Amit Kumar also had stated that he was asked to praise the participants on Indian Idol.
The Mask controversy
Sonu Nigam was criticised and pinpointed for not wearing a mask while donating blood. He was trolled badly for this and the singer decided to react to all this with a Facebook comment. He wrote, "For the Einstiens here, let me answer you in the language you deserve. S***e gadhon (donkeys), ullu ke patthon (Idiots), one is not allowed to wear a mask while donating blood. Kitna giroge s***e leftists (How low will you stoop, you Leftists)"
Sonu Comments on his son Naveen
Sonu once expressed that he does not wish that his son Naveen should work as a singer in India. He quoted, "Frankly, I don’t want him to be a singer, at least not in this country. Anyway, he does not live in India anymore, he lives in Dubai. I have already got him out of India. He is a born singer but he has another interest in life"
Comment on reality shows
In a video that went viral on the internet, Sonu Nigam was seen talking to filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and criticizing reality shows. He said, "there are lots of shows, where the songs are played are dub. They don’t want to show the faltered scene, they show it by correcting it"
'Music mafia' controversy
In a vlog, Sonu spoke about alleged music mafias in the industry. He shared the vlog which was captioned with, "You might soon hear about Suicides in the Music Industry." He shared, "I was lucky that I joined (the industry) at a young age, I escaped the clutches. I got out of it. I don't have any wish to sing for the last 15 years. It's ok. I am happy in my own world. But I have seen the frustration in the eyes, in the voice, in the words of new singers, new composers, new lyrics writers... tears of blood, sometimes."
Azaan tweet
It was considered one of the most controversial statements made about the singer. In the year 2017, he had tweeted, "God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India"
Deleting his Twitter account
Sonu Nigam has deleted his Twitter account long back in the year 2017 after the azaan tweet. He is currently not present on the platform, one cannot spot him there.
