Netaji belongs to all of us: Sharmila Tagore

Sharmila Tagore says that Subhas Chandra Bose belongs to all of us and one should also remember him as a human being who loved art.

The award-winning actress was present at the Traditional Birthday Assembly of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at Netaji Bhawan, Kolkata, to launch a music album titled ‘Netajir Priyo Gaan’, which comprises of Subhas Chandra Bose’s favourite Bengali songs.

Reminiscing the early days of her life, the Kashmir Ki Kali fame actress said, “All my life  I have celebrated Netaji’s birthday every year. In fact, during school it used to be so much fun. But this is the first time I have attended a proper celebration of Netaji organised by the family. So, this is also a very special occasion.”

“He just doesn’t belong to a family, he belongs to all of us,” she added.

She also admired Netaji’s love for music.

Songs of Rabindranath Tagore, D L Roy, Dilip Kumar Roy and Vidyapati were mentioned prominently in a prison book written by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

She opined, “Netaji has a multifaceted life, which gives us wonderful inspiration. Of course, we know about Netaji’s contribution in India’s freedom but we should also remember him as a human being and as a person who loved art and music.”

The music of the album has been recreated by Srikumar Banerjee in a traditional style. The songs have been sung by Pramita Mallick, Sasha Ghoshal, Sounak Chattopadhyay, and Suman Bhattacharya and the verses have been recited by Sugata Bose.
