MUMBAI : Govinda is a highly skilled performer in the Hindi cinema business and is known for her roles in films such as Hero No. 1, Coolie No. 1, Hadh Kar Di Aapne, and Partner, among others. He signed "70 films" after making his debut, some of which he had to leave later, though he has been away from the big screen for some time now.
Once, while filming the 1989 movie Jung Baaz with co-star Raaj Kumar, Govinda became speechless. In a recent interview with the popular news portal, Director of Jung Baaz Mehul Kumar recalls an on-set incident involving Govinda and Raaj Kumar.
"Govinda ek shirt pehenkey aaya thaa toh Raaj sahab ne taareef kardi uski. Govinda ne socha sach mein taareef ki hogi toh phir [usne] shirt nikaal ke Raaj sahaab ko gift dedi (Govinda wore a shirt to the set, for which Raaj Kumar complimented the actor. Govinda didn’t get the sarcasm so he removed the shirt and gifted it to him)," Kumar said.
"Raaj sahaab phir doosre din usi shirt kaa rumaal bana ke lekey aa gaye set pe aur usi se sab haath saaf karte the (Raaj Kumar made it into a handkerchief and would use it to wipe off his hands on the set)," he added.
Regarding Govinda, the director revealed that the actor may have felt bad about it even if he didn't respond. Mehul Kumar recalled in the same interview how Raaj Kumar frequently saw Govinda shake a leg on the sets. The late veteran actor questioned the director, recalling his words, "Why Govinda keep dancing on the sets?"
The actor from Tirangaa wasn't convinced, even though the director laughed and said he was a dancer. Govinda and Raaj Kumar collaborated on Marte Dum Tak (1987) before Jung Baaz. Raaj Kumar is well known for his roles in the films Saudagar, Waqt, Mother India, Pakeezah, Humraaz, Dil Ek Mandir, Heer Ranjha, and Neel Kamal.
