Palace of Westminster honour for Jackie Shroff

Jackie Shroff, who made his debut in Dev Anand’s Swami Dada in a cameo, has been honoured at the Palace of Westminster for his contribution to the promotion of South Asian arts and culture through films. On the occasion of his felicitation, leading Labour MP and joint chair of the Indo-British All-Party Parliamentary Group, Virendra Sharma presented Shroff with a plaque last evening. The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

Jackie Shroff, who made his debut in Dev Anand’s Swami Dada in a cameo, has been honoured at the Palace of Westminster for his contribution to the promotion of South Asian arts and culture through films. On the occasion of his felicitation, leading Labour MP and joint chair of the Indo-British All-Party Parliamentary Group, Virendra Sharma presented Shroff with a plaque last evening. The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The 56-year old star who started his career in films in Subhash Ghai’s Hero playing the male lead has starred in about 150 films till date. Noted among his films are Yudh, Andar Baahar, Karma, Ram Lakhan, Parinda, 1942 A Love Story, Meherbaniyaan, Trimurti and Devdas among others. In 1990, he won the Filmfare Best Actor award for the film Parinda while in 1995 he won the Filmfare Best supporting actor award for 1942 A Love Story. He also won the Special Honour Jury Award for Outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema in 2007. His latest film Shootout at Wadala released just yesterday while he is shooting for YRF’s Aurangzeb and Tamil film Kochadaiyaan.
